Principal Update

After enjoying some long service leave for the first 3 weeks of this term, it has been great to be back at school and catching up on all the activity that has been happening in my absence. I'd like to say thank you to our Principal Class team during my absence, particularly Russell Wigginton for stepping into the role of Acting Principal, and Stephanie Cust, stepping into the role of Acting Assistant Principal.
On Tuesday this week we welcomed prospective families to the college via a regular school tour. Even though it was only a couple of weeks since our Prospective Parent Evening, the tour was highly attended, and it was wonderful to meet with so many families and show them around the school on a regular school day, joining active classrooms and really providing families with a feel for what the school is like when it's in full swing. We have one more tour scheduled for the year, so if you know of any families that have not yet been able to attend a tour, and who are interested to see the school firsthand, please encourage them to register to attend via our website.
We're really starting to see progress now with Stage 2 of our Capital Works Program - the Trades Hub. The slab was poured some weeks ago, but in recent days construction of the steel frame has commenced, already providing a good sense of what the new space will be like. It's wonderful to see these developments for the school coming to fruition.
Term 2 is always a busy period for school sports, excursions and camps and I'd like to formally acknowledge the parent volunteers who have supported sports excursions recently, making it possible for these teams to compete, building stronger connections with the school and reducing the impact on the learning program at school by keeping more teachers in front of their classes. We're incredibly grateful for your support.
As I look ahead, I'm thrilled to see strong registrations for the Family Kitchen Workshops we're running in early June. These workshops are an initiative of our 2025 Annual Implementation Plan to strengthen student, parent and community connectedness to school. Places are still available, so if you're interested, please refer to the details in the section later in this edition.
Last Friday we celebrated Education Support Personnel Appreciation Day. Our school could not run without the dedicated and talented work of our ES team whose work is often somewhat 'behind-the-scenes'. It was really lovely to see the effort made by many students and staff to write notes of appreciation and gratitude for the work of our ES team, with these then turned into a display in our Staff Room.
Tomorrow, we have the first of two Presentation Balls (previously Debutante Ball). I know a lot of work goes into preparing for these nights through dance lessons, dresses/suits, hair, make up etc and I look forward to seeing the students bring all the elements together over the two nights.
A few important dates are approaching that affect the whole school that I ask families to please take note of. We have our whole-school Athletics Carnival on Thursday 29th May 2025, and I look forward to seeing students participating or cheering on their peers adorned in their house colours. Please take note of the King's Birthday Public Holiday on Monday 9th June and the pupil free day on Tuesday 17th June - VCE Unit 3&4 students will be sitting the GAT, but for all other students, this day is student-free.
Finally, our Library is seeking donations of books and/or games. If you're able to assist, please see the flyer below for details and get in contact with our Librarian, Bronwyn Trevorah.
Kind Regards,
