Year 7 Cosmodome Incursion Brings the Universe to Life

As part of their studies in Earth and Space Sciences, Year 7 students recently took part in the Cosmodome incursion, an exciting immersive experience that supported their learning of key concepts in the Victorian Science Curriculum.

Aligned with the Year 7–8 Science understanding strand, the incursion reinforced the idea that predictable phenomena on Earth, including day and night and the seasons, are caused by the relative positions of the sun, Earth and moon (VCSSU105). Inside the inflatable Cosmodome planetarium, students explored these concepts through a guided tour of the solar system, examining the apparent movement of celestial bodies and the relationships that influence life on Earth.

Students also investigated the scale and structure of the solar system, developing a clearer understanding of the vast distances between planets and the nature of stars, galaxies, and other space phenomena. This hands-on learning experience deepened their comprehension of space science while sparking curiosity and critical thinking.

The incursion provided a rich, curriculum-aligned extension to classroom learning, helping students visualise abstract scientific concepts and engage meaningfully with content in a memorable and dynamic way.

A big thank you to the Cosmodome team and well done to our Year 7 students for their enthusiasm and excellent participation.
