NUMERACY

Set the challenge. To get our young minds active and ready to problem solve, we regularly do a quick activity, this could be a recap of a previous lesson, or a game/puzzle. In Numeracy this week Group 5 was set the following challenge, how quickly can you solve it?

Using any letter only once, what are the largest and smallest numbers that you can write down in words?

Example: EIGHTY

But not NINETY as N is used twice

Our students were very quick to find the smallest number but the largest proved more challenging.

Largest Number: FIVE THOUSAND

Smallest Number: ZERO

Year 7

For the first five weeks of term 2, students have covered Fractions & Ratios, Decimals and Percentages, developing skills to easily convert between from one format to another, identify their uses in different real-life scenarios and apply to various mathematical applications.  Whilst shopping our students can help families calculate potential savings!

Year 8 and 9

Probability has been the name of the game with students developing their language related to chance, calculating likelihood of events occurring and comparing theoretical probability to experimental events.  Important skills developed are the use of displays to illustrate outcomes and the use of digital technologies to generate simulations.
