FOUNDATION Mad About Science – Wicked Weather!

Wow! What a fun and exciting time our Foundation students had during the Mad About Science incursion all about Wicked Weather!

the stduents learned that weather is always changing because the air in the Earth’s atmosphere is always on the move. Weather affects so much in our lives — what we wear, what we eat, where we go on holidays, and even the kind of homes we live in!

Some cool facts we discovered:

  • Clouds are made from water vapour that cools and turns into tiny drops.
  • Rainwater is fresh (even if it started in the ocean!) — and plants love it!
  • The Earth spins and tilts, which is how we get the seasons.
  • Snow is made up of teeny tiny ice crystals.
  • The sun’s UV rays can be harmful to our skin and eyes.
  • Sometimes, we even get wild weather like tornadoes!

What we did:

  • Watched steam rise from boiling water and saw how it’s like clouds forming.
  • Made our own little rainstorm in a fun experiment.
  • Used lab tools to build a mini model of the water cycle.
  • Made snow polymer — it felt super squishy and cool!
  • Tested t-shirt fabric and sunglasses to see if they block UV rays.
  • Each of us made a UV detector to take home!
  • Saw a tornado simulation — it was awesome (and a little scary)!

It was such a hands-on, fun-filled learning day — science really blew us away! 🌬️☁️🌦️

Grade 3 Swimming

This week, our Grade 3 students had their swimming lessons.

Thank you to all the parents for being so vigilant and remembering to pack their children’s swim gear each day. Your help makes a big difference!

Swimming is an important part of learning about water safety. The students practiced floating, kicking, and basic strokes. These skills help build confidence and keep them safe around water.

We are also very lucky to have a swimming pool so close by. It gives our students a great chance to learn and improve their swimming right here in our community.

Well done to all our young swimmers for trying their best in the pool this week!

Music Extra-Curricular

Last week, our Year 3–6 students began their exciting music lessons!

These extra-curricular sessions include vocals, guitar, drums, and keyboard. Students have been eager to try new instruments and learn about rhythm, melody, and working together as a group.

Music is a great way for students to build confidence, creativity, and teamwork — and of course, have fun!

Keep an eye on your Compass communications for upcoming music performances. We can’t wait to hear what our talented students have been learning and creating!
