Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge

The Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge is now open, and St Peter's School is excited to be taking part.

The Challenge is open to all Victorian children from birth to Year 10 and aims to foster a lifelong love of reading. It is not a competition, but a personal challenge for students to read a set number of books by 5 September 2025.

  • Children from Prep to Year 2 are encouraged to read or ‘experience’ 30 books with the help of parents and teachers.
  • Children from Year 3 to Year 6 are challenged to read 15 books independently.

All children who complete the Challenge will receive a certificate of achievement signed by the Victorian Premier and former Premiers.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Challenge, with the theme: ‘20 Years of Words and Wonder’. A range of special activities will be held throughout the year to celebrate! Visit: www.vic.gov.au/premiers-reading-challenge for more information.

Musica Viva at St Peter's School

Last week we had a very exciting experience, being visited by Musica Viva, and their show ‘Rhythm Works’. Students could listen to professional percussion players and play traditional instruments such as hand percussion, vibraphones, and shakers. And ‘homemade’ instruments, made from everyday items such as PVC pipes, and buckets.

During this rich musical experience, students were asked to participate in various ways, such as tapping, singing, and playing instruments. Their learning of the songs in music class before the event certainly helped them to understand the music in a deeper way.

The songs played during the performance were ‘Chameleon’, ‘Liffey Falls’ and ‘Road Train’. Students were attentive and showed their deep understanding and love for music through the insightful questions they asked throughout and at the show's end!
