Mothers' Day Morning Tea

Last week, we were graced by so many beautiful mums in our EPAC for the 'Grab and go' Mother's Day event. The room was filled with chatter and hugs as our Secondary students and mums bonded over breakfast and connected with other families.

Thank you as well to the parent representatives and Year 10 Leaders for creating such a beautiful spread!

Year 11 Retreat at Mylor Campsite

Savannah - "Our first day of camp was spent at Mylor. When we got there we could choose three activities out of the giant swing, canoeing, archery tag, frisbee golf and the flying fox. The food that we had at Mylor was delicious, we had stuffed potatoes for lunch, a chicken parmi for dinner and eggs and bacon for breakfast. At night we had a very powerful message from Ben Peters and an opportunity to pray with others at the end. We finished the day with a quiz night which was very eventful. It was fun going up against other teams and trying to win a box of favourites for your team."

Rexon - "My highlight of the Year 11 Retreat was listening to Ben Peters’ message. His powerful talk about developing an outward and upward mindset challenged me to shift my focus, encouraging me to look beyond myself to serve others while staying grounded in faith and purpose. He also reminded us not to settle for our own version of truth, but to align ourselves with God’s truth instead. After the message, we had the opportunity to pray for one another, which created a meaningful and spiritually uplifting moment that brought us closer together as a community."

Finn - "During the second day of our Retreat we awoke early and drove down to the city where we were dropped outside the entrance of the botanical gardens with a backpack and a simple instruction: 'Get back to school before 2:30 using any transport we can'. Inside the backpacks was a list of challenges to complete, a map, spending money, and a polaroid camera to provide proof we did the challenges. Some of my favourites were to get on the pedal boats, make an album cover for a band, busk for enough money to buy a treat for your team, and get in the tallest building you could."

Year 12 Business Innovation Excursion to Lenswood

The Year 12 Business Innovation students enjoyed an excursion to Lenswood Pick Your Own on Friday 9 May. The owner, Emily, took us on a tour of the apple orchard and explained the company's current business model and how they have adapted it since purchasing the farm in 2020. Having started their careers in nursing, both Emily and her husband wanted to place for their children to grow up in the Adelaide Hills. From investigating the best revenue stream for their farm, they opted for tourism business with "Pick Your Own" apples, similar to the local cherry and strawberry ventures. They are currently expanding in various avenues like school tours, and other projects allowing them to be sustainable year-round.

Emily shared about real-life business challenges and how these can be seen as opportunities or learnings for any business. She shared her wealth of business knowledge and mistakes, leading to learnings along the way. She also shared how best to connect with the business community and gave feedback on our own business ventures.

The Year 12 students had some great questions to ask and learned a lot from this real-life experience (and ate a few apples along the way too).

Year 9 Rite Journey - Mentor Walks and Talks

“Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise” (Prov 13:12)

It is such a privilege and joy to partner with God in the simple things that he’s doing every day... One of these things is mentoring or discipleship. It’s built into young people to seek out role models. People they look up to, people they can talk to, people they can learn from, people they’ll be influenced by. For better or worse, all young people, particularly in their teens, are shopping around for ‘mentors’. This is a beautiful thing, and one way we celebrate this in the Rite Journey at Year 9 is by encouraging all students to spend time with a mentor.

Last Wednesday, we were overjoyed to see so many volunteer mentors come along to grab a coffee and a list of questions and take a stroll around the block for a hopefully meaningful chat. We saw smiles, occasional laughter, and a beautiful familiarity between the many pairs of mentors and their ‘mentees’.

Then yesterday, we had the Year 12 Girls have a mentor talk with the Year 9 Girls and the Year 12 Boys mentor the Year 9 Boys. The students were prompted with light-hearted, faith-focused, and deep questions to ask one another and share their thoughts. It was great for the Year 9s and 12s to formally meet and talk with one another about deep questions.

We hope and pray that these relationships will be meaningful and blessed not just this year but into the future.
