Sustainability at SJV

The garden beds have been cleared, the soil is still warm…it’s time for a Winter crop to be planted. We will plant veggies like broccoli , silverbeet, celery, broad beans, and more lettuce.  Our little group of lunchtime helpers have worked hard to keep the weeds at bay and have managed to keep the flowers blooming to attract the bees.  Speaking of bees…it is World Bee Day on 20th May.  We cannot underestimate the importance of bees in keeping our crops growing.  We know that without the bees doing their work we have no crops.  See the link for more information about these wonderful insects and other pollinators.  world bee day link.  If you’ve seen the SJV Garden, you’ll notice that one bed is full of lettuce.  Please help yourselves to a few leaves from the patch.  Take the outer leaves and leave the root in the soil.  Here are a couple of photos of our great team this week.
