Co-curricular - Senior Sport

Saturday 18 May

In Rugby, we travelled to Knox Grammar School in what was a huge day involving many lessons being learnt. We came up against some very well drilled and fit teams, and while a lot of the scorelines were unfavourable for SPC, days like that teach you a lot and can certainly be a positive experience when a growth mindset is applied. There were some very close finishes in the U15s age group, a clean sweep from SPC in the U14s and two wins in the U13s. Once again demonstrating a lot of exciting developments of Rugby at SPC.

We also had a very successful weekend of Football for SPC with a total of 20 wins, two draws and only eight losses from the weekend. The First XI continued on from last week’s winning ways with a 4-0 win over St Paul’s, all of our A teams had wins and some very strong performances in lower grades shows that much of the hard work from players and coaches alike is certainly paying off.

After a very long wait, the College Tennis teams took to the court to have their first ISA hit out after missing out on the first two rounds due to wet weather. The boys took to the court with large amounts of enthusiasm, resilience, sportsmanship, and of course high levels of skill. We managed to pull off four wins out of nine matches that went ahead, as our Division 10 team have to wait another week before they demonstrate their skills. Well done to Kieran Low who was named Tennis Player of the Week.

Uniform, Attendance and Focus

It is the responsibility of all boys to be aware of their teams training schedule, where their team is playing each week and to be correctly attired for their match. Please arrive 30 minutes before the match at the latest. On the rare occasion that a boy is ill and not able to attend his fixture, please email the relevant MIC and me as early as possible and provide a medical certificate. Boys attending fixtures in support are also reminded to wear their full Supporters’ uniform. If boys wish to wear a hat for sun protection, only the black College cap, and when braving the cold this Winter season, only the College tracksuit is to be worn.

When watching and cheering at SPC fixtures, please focus all energy on the positives of our teams rather than the referee’s perspective or the performance of other teams. If parents/carers or boys witness negative play or behaviour from opposition teams, please contact me and I can pass this onto their school. Winning is certainly important, however the positive learning experience for all involved is our main focus. No parent should be at the sidelines coaching their son (unless they are employed College coaches).

Any request for leave from training or games is to be directed to Mr Calavassy and myself, in writing, well in advance from a parent or carer.

Thank you to coaches, players, parents, and carers for your continued efforts.
