ICAS Online Competitions

Dear Stage 3 & 4 Parents/Caregivers,

Each year at Good Shepherd Lutheran School Para Vista, we offer an opportunity for our students to participate in the ICAS Online Competitions. These are academic competitions that give students the chance to test their higher order thinking and problem-solving skills in Digital Technologies, Maths, Science and Writing. These competitions will take place in August this year

Participation is optional. This is an opportunity for students who wish to challenge and extend themselves.

If your child is interested in this opportunity, or if you have further questions, please get in touch with me via email  (jared.grierson@gspv.sa.edu.au) or come see me in person. You can find me in the office near the library.

Cut-off date for registration is July 15th so make sure you get in touch before that date if your child would like to participate.

Sincerely,

Jared Grierson

Teaching and Learning Leader

School Absences

Please don't forget, if your child is going to be absent from school you will need to notify both their classroom teacher and the front office. This can be done via email. The front office email is: admin@gspv.sa.edu.au

This helps us ensure that your child is safe and accounted for, and that we have the correct information regarding their absence.

Siblings

If you have not yet submitted an enrolment application for any siblings of current students, please do so as soon as possible to ensure a position is available, the sooner the better! Your prompt attention to this is greatly appreciated. Enrolment applications can be collected and returned to the front office.

Volunteering at the school

Next Volunteer Training: Tuesday June 4th.

We have plenty of volunteer opportunities within our school for those interested in contributing to our vibrant community at Good Shepherd Lutheran School Para Vista, and your involvement is crucial in creating a nurturing environment for our students.

To learn more about the available opportunities and the application process, please take a moment to review the attached PDF document. We greatly appreciate your willingness to support our educational journey, and we look forward to welcoming you as valued members of our dedicated team

Lunch Clubs

We have lots of fun activities for students to participate in every lunchtime, including:

  • Monday - Lego Club
  • Tuesday - Art Club
  • Wednesday - Origami Club
  • Thursday - Chess Club
  • Friday - Lego Club

Started by Year 6 student Piper, students gather each Wednesday in '175' for Origami Club where this week they made Pac man, Kittens, and a wolf.

Origami Club is always looking for more students to come and join the fun! If your child likes making paper planes or being creative, perhaps encourage them to join us!

Providing this space to encourage creative expression in children is essential to nurture their imagination, support emotional development, and assist with problem-solving skills, all part of our core school values of Love, Optimism and Creativity.

Growing Faith at Home

Dear School Families,

Here is something a little different… It is actually a MasterFoods ad from a few years ago called ‘Dinnertime Matters’. I encourage you to watch the video and hear what the adults and children have to say regarding people they would like to invite to dinner.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KHqfrpVcW4I

Growing Faith at Home resources encourage you to talk with family members (whether or not they are at the table, that is up to you) at a time and place that suits your context. While they offer conversation starters that encourage faith, there is always the ‘share your highs and lows’ option.

This is a wonderful way to build your relationship, to hear what is impacting your child, as well as providing an opportunity for them to hear about your highs and lows… perhaps even the ways that you manage them!

God bless you,

Georgie
