Sport News

Congratulations to Kolby Martin. Glen Innes High School and members of our extended community could not be prouder of this fine individual and his contribution to the NorthWest Rugby Union team.

A silver medal at the state carnival in rugby union has not been achieved by a member of our school previously.

Congratulations to the team ( incl coaches) and Kolby for achieving something rare and very difficult.

Netball News

A wonderful display of netball from these girls on Thursday, 16th May! Their efforts in terms of skill and athleticism were outstanding. The young team was led strongly by Year 12 students Maisie and Louisa, both experienced netballers. Many thanks to Julie Fuller for coaching and her ongoing support of school netball. Thanks also to Tayla Fuller for her support and to Kim Wilkins for taking time out of her busy day to umpire. We had a nice win over a developing Bundara side.

We narrowly lost to both ASC and Inverell High. Our team held the lead against a more senior Inverell side for three quarters and seemed poised for a win, only to lose by a couple of points in the final quarter.

All the girls should be very proud of their performance. The future of GIHS netball is looking good!

NSW U15’s Boys Touch- Mudgee Term 1 Week 10

With new faces and a positive team dynamic, North West wanted to be competitive and give it their all in every game. The carnival started with a try-for-try game and narrow loss to Western 5-4. Games 2 and 3 were against tough teams Hunter and South Coast who rolled us with a margin difference of 5 tries although we still scored in both games. A possible victory came into sight against North Coast, who just pulled away at the end to win 2-4. North west learned from the losses to finish Day 1 with a 5-1 win against Sydney South West. At the end of day 1 North West sat 6th on the Table out of 10 teams and feeling like we were on the up.

We were looking to improve our position on day 2 however started with a disappointing loss to Sydney West 5-2. We picked ourselves up and tackled ladder leaders Sydney North to have a competitive match with some disallowed try’s North West lost 9-2. Feeling good and backing up from that effort we  rolled into playing Riverina. We finished with a  draw of 3-3 and let the game slip when we had our chances. The final match of the carnival was against Sydney East. We were told to “leave it all out there” and played valiantly to conclude a close game with a loss of 2-4.

We finished the carnival with a more successful campaign than usual for North West finishing 8th on the ladder. The boys all had a great time together and under the guidance of Mr Budda-Dean all the boys gained valuable knowledge and experience from this high level of touch.

NSW U15’s Girls Touch- Mudgee Term 1 Week 10

Over the two days of tough competition, we did not make the semis but enjoyed the atmosphere of the competition. The vibe of our team was as bright as our orange socks and new friendships were formed. Our skill and abilities individually and as a team improved dramatically and it was a great learning experience for everyone. We would like to congratulate Kaitlyn for winning the sprint race and the boys as they played very well during the two days.
