Student Attendances and Illnesses

Student attendance and illness

Whilst we dilegently follow up and encourage strong attendance routines for students at school, we urge parents/carers to keep students at home if they are unwell. Sending students to school when unwell can lead to more students being sick, and sometimes results in staff absences due to the illness being spread.

We do encourage parents/carers to only keep children home when unwell. Absences for unneccessary reasons (eg. Child’s birthday, visiting a friend) can lead to poor attendance routines and signficant lost learning over time.

Students with more that 20 absences in a year (or 5 absences in a term

are considered significantly at risk in their learning and social development.

Parents/Carers are asked to always ensure absences are explained via Compass, or contact your child’s teacher. Students with more than 5 absences per term have attendance plans to support their progress at school.
