Dear Members of the Academy Community,

Last Sunday saw the celebration of Pentecost where the Church celebrates the coming of the Spirit - the outpouring of the sudden power of God to transform a wounded and disillusioned band of stragglers into a community that changed the world.  God's power is potentially overwhelming, like the natural forces of wind, fire, storm and flood.  It is power to break down what is corrupt in the world's patterns of thought and dominance.  But the Spirit is also seen as the breath of love, the giver of life, the remaker of community, the waker of the oppressed, the one who sings in the hearts of the poor.

The last weeks have been busy ones for the Academy of Mary Immaculate community with a myriad of activities and opportunities including the Seeds of Justice Conference, Year 10 Community Action Reflection Day, a number of sporting events, a Talk and Tour, an important information evening for the 2025 Cultural Tour to France, a meeting of the College Advisory Council - just to mention a few of the events.

And, of course, there is much excitement and anticipation as we move into Production Week with our 2024 musical, Chicago.

Our students have been rehearsing on most Sundays this year and each Monday evening so we know 'Chicago' will be an awe-inspiring experience, enjoyed by all.  There are very few tickets left so do not leave it too late to purchase your ticket.

Many thanks to our staff Ms Olivia Hamilton, Ms Alison Hocking and Ms Mirelle Morris who have supported our students on their performing arts journey.  They have encouraged performers to excel.

We were delighted to welcome a number of past students who attended this week’s Talk and Tour.  They were delighted to be back at their Alma Mater and equally thrilled to have the opportunity of enrolling their daughters at the school they love.  They shared some of their memories with us.

So a reminder that enrolment applications for 2026 close in August.

May the Spirit of God transform and empower our lives.

Every blessing,

Prayer for Pentecost

Wind of God, keep on blowing,

Sail over the barriers that we build

to divide ourselves from each other.

Pick up your seeds of freedom and truth

wherever they flourish,

carry them across frontiers

to be planted in other soil,

to begin fresh growth and new forms.

Blow from the South

to the ears of Northern peoples.

Blow away the blinkers

which keep our eyes focused only on the past,

repeating its violence, deepening its divisions

and adding to its despair.

Reveal the new future you have in mind for us.

Fire of God, keep on burning,

Smoulder in the hearts of people

where oppression keeps them in chains,

where unemployment and poverty

devalue their humanity

and where hunger weakens the spirit.

Burn in them, like Moses’ bush,

And do not let them be destroyed.

Tongue of God, keep on speaking

so that the peoples of earth

can speak your language to each other

and all can hear you in their own.

Speak peace where nations meet,

justice where ideas clash,

mercy where power reigns,

healing where minds and bodies hurt,

and love where churches seek your unity,

and wherever else Babel

drowns out the sound of Pentecost.
