Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden

We started our session by observing the changes in the garden over the last 2 weeks, broad beans, beetroot, carrots and peas have all popped up and the garlic is looking strong.

We inspected plants for pest damage and sprayed our homemade pest spray on the plants that have been attacked. The strong garlic and chilli infused spray will make the plants undesirable to snails, slugs and caterpillars.

For good measure we also crushed eggshells and spread these around the base of young plants to deter our slimy foes.

Sue introduced us to a moon gardening experiment where we’ll track the progress of 2 basil plants planted at different times during the moon’s cycle.

We also enjoyed a leaf scavenger hunt, searching for leaves of all colour combinations and characteristics, then we came up with some delicious sounding fruit juice combinations based on the leaf’s colours. Mango and raspberry juice anybody?

See you in the garden next Thursday 🌱
