Learning Italian Greetings
This term, we have been focusing on a very practical topic: how to respond to the question "Come stai?" which means "How are you?" in English.
The children have been enthusiastic about learning and practicing their new phrases. They now know how to respond in three different ways:
"Sto bene" – which means "I am well."
"Sto male" – which means "I am not well."
"Sto così così" – which means "I am so-so" or "not too bad."
The students are starting to use these phrases with confidence and excitement. We encourage you to practice these greetings at home with your children to reinforce their learning and make it even more fun.
Year 1
We drew one of our favourite characters, Bluey, in Art last Friday. We followed instructions from Art Hub online to draw her outline. Then we had a great time colouring her in! Then we cut out our drawing and pasted it onto a background inside a frame. We created the background by using one colour of paint but made a texture using the dabbing/daubing technique with a thick brush. You can see our masterpieces hanging in a small gallery on our classroom door!
Year 2/3
Hello Families,
We have had another fun filled week in class. The wonderful Rose Lee was kind enough to put up the lovely Haiku’s the children wrote earlier this term. They are on display as you walk up the stairs to our classroom. Please enjoy the photos below. Just a reminder that it is our class assembly next week on Thursday.
Have a great and joyful long weekend.

Year 4/5
Last Friday, the Foundation students came over to our classroom and we worked with them. We had a great time with them. We each choose one of the amazing students to be our buddy for the afternoon. The buddies were so adorable and so much fun to play and to be with. Some of us played some games with them on the computers and some of us made some great Art pieces with them. In the end, we were very sad that they had to leave and we all had to go home. By Callix, Raffaele and Nirav
Last Friday, we were lucky to have the Foundation children come to our class. Our buddies were Aida and Sidesh. They were both very nice and also a bit cheeky! And we loved it! We saw lots of Foundation children having lots of fun with us. We really liked them coming to our class and we would love them to come again. By Kaitlyn and Natalie
Every Monday, some of the years 5 and 6 have been gardening with Marie and Lauren. Lately, we‘ve been cleaning and watering the plants. Some of us have also been sweeping the front of the school to make it look even nicer and cleaner. Gardening with these two teachers always makes everyone’s day a lot better! We think gardening should definitely be done at home too. It helps to release stress and it calms you down.
This week, we decided to grow some delicious potatoes because it’s potato season. We’re so excited because when they’re ready, we’re going to cook them and eat them! We might make some yummy chips or some creamy mashed potatoes or some crunchy baked potatoes. We love gardening and can’t wait for the potatoes to grow!

Year 5/6
Long Service League
Last week the senior students, as part of Reconciliation, viewed the powerful film 'Rabbit Proof Fence' , a film about the Stolen Generations, in particular the story of three girls who were taken away from Jiggalong (* see picture). I flew over the rabbit proof fence yesterday on my way to Broome, to attend my nephew's wedding. It's a long way from Melbourne!! Thanks to James and Francesca for running the show for the next week and a bit. Time to go fishing..

Learning Italian Through Food
This term in Italian, our Grade 5/6 students have focused on food, more specifically the vegetables required to make a delicious Italian minestrone. As part of our interactive learning approach, students are getting creative with a unique activity: designing a character made entirely of fruits and vegetables!
The Learning intention: to help students learn and remember the names of various fruits and vegetables in Italian, while also having some fun! Each student designs a character using different fruits and vegetables to represent various body parts.
For example:
-Occhi (Eyes): Piselli (Peas)
-Orecchie (Ears): Arancia (Orange slices)
-Bocca (Mouth): Zucchini (Zucchini slices)
Students are either drawing their characters or using cut-out images from magazines or printouts.
Through this activity, students are achieving several learning outcomes:
1. Vocabulary Building: Students learn the Italian names for a variety of fruits and vegetables.
2. Language Skills: They practice using these words in sentences and descriptions.
3. Cultural Appreciation: Understanding food as an important part of Italian culture.
Inquiry
Scientists abound at Sacred Heart as our Chemical Change unit rolls on, with students partnering up to create and perform experiments around chemical change. This week we looked at changes in molecular structure when different form of liquid mix. Students had a chance to hypothesise and then observe to see how close they were. It's ben fun!
Wellbeing
Not often enough do we as people tell each other how much we like each other and why. It's always nice to receive a compliment and some feedback on what makes us unique. This week Onella and Roman were selected, where their peers wrote what they particularly admired or liked about that classmate. A great initiative, thanks Kate!
