Numeracy ~ Measurement:

Our Prep students have been engaged in a fantastic hands-on learning experience focused on measurement, allowing them to dive deep into the language and concepts of measurement, using real-world objects and activities to enhance their understanding.

The children have been learning and using key measurement terms such as length, long, short, wide, and tall. Through various interactive activities, they have been able to apply these terms in context, discussing and comparing different objects around them.

The students have been encouraged to make educated guesses about measurements before confirming their ideas through actual measurement. This approach not only develops their critical thinking skills but also makes learning more engaging and fun.

To bring these concepts to life, the students have been using familiar objects to measure and compare lengths and widths. Whether it's using a piece of string to measure the length of a table or using blocks to determine the height of a tower, or icy pole sticks to measure the big book, these practical activities have helped them grasp the fundamentals of measurement in a tangible and meaningful way. This hands-on approach to exploring measurement has fostered both curiosity and confidence in our children. We are excited to see how these foundational skills will support their future learning in mathematics and beyond.
