Grade 3 classes are back in full swing following our busy assessment weeks. In the past week we have been basing our literacy learning around the African Savannah. Students have had the opportunity to read and learn about the features of nonfiction books, whilst revising different sentence types, such as simple, compound and complex. It has been great to see the enthusiasm in Numeracy, students conducted a survey to collect data and then used that data to create a graph. You may have noticed an increase in singing at home, as we have started learning and practising our songs for concert. There are a lot of excited young people at the moment. Just a reminder that our Earth Ed excursion is occurring next week, so please provide permission on compass.

Grade 4 Assessment Success and Exciting Upcoming Activities

Our Grade 4 students have just completed their assessment block, and we are extremely proud of the fantastic growth they have shown. Their dedication and hard work have truly paid off, and we are excited to see what they will achieve in the remaining months of the school year.

In Numeracy, the students have been diligently working on fractions and shapes. Their understanding of these concepts has improved significantly, and they have demonstrated impressive problem-solving skills.

In Reading, we have continued our journey through Roald Dahl's classic, "The BFG." The students have been analysing the author's use of figurative and descriptive language, enhancing their comprehension and appreciation of literary techniques to then use in their own writing.

Our Writing lessons have been equally exciting. The students recently completed a creative exposition in the form of a travel brochure, linking to the country they researched during Project Based Learning. This project allowed them to apply their research skills and creativity in a meaningful way. We have now begun working on engaging descriptions related to "The BFG," which will further develop their writing abilities.

Additionally, we are thrilled to begin preparations for our school concert. The students are eagerly learning their songs and are looking forward to showcasing their talents.

Please feel free to reach out to your child’s teacher if you have any questions or concerns. We look forward to seeing you and celebrating your child's hard work during the upcoming parent-teacher interviews. Be sure to book your appointments through Compass when the portal goes live.

Thank you for your continued support and involvement in your child's education.

Dear Parents, guardians, and carers,

We have successfully completed our two weeks of assessments! The students’ hard work and determination during this period was truly commendable, and we are very proud of their achievements.

Within the classroom in Reading this week, we have been focusing on enhancing our students' reading skills through the activity of predicting. This exercise involves encouraging students to make educated guesses about what will happen next in a story based on the text they have read so far. It helps in developing critical thinking and comprehension skills. We encourage you to ask your children about the stories they are reading and what they predict will happen next.

Our Writing activity this week is an exciting one! Students have been crafting narratives about a future world. This imaginative exercise allows them to explore their creativity while developing their narrative writing skills. We look forward to reading their stories about the innovative and fantastical worlds they envision, and the problems and solutions that go with their narrative.

In Numeracy, our focus will be on understanding and creating number sequences. This activity helps students recognize patterns and develop their arithmetic skills. You can support your child by practicing simple sequences at home and challenging them to identify the pattern and continue the sequence.

We are also thrilled to announce that we have been starting concert practice! Our students are preparing for the upcoming performance, and we can’t wait to see their talents shine on stage. Also, we know many of you are eagerly awaiting details about our upcoming school camp. We are currently finalising the arrangements and will be sending out all the necessary information within the next week or so. This camp promises to be an enriching experience for our students, filled with fun, exciting activities and valuable learning opportunities.

Thank you for your continued support and involvement in your child’s education. Have a great week!

Professional Learning Community 6 (Grade 6)

Hi all,

A lot has been happening in and out of our classroom since we last talked.

In class, we have been reading “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”, looking at character traits and how they develop over time.  This has fed into our writing, with students this week completing a description of their chosen sweet.  They may have had some chocolates and popcorn to help them with their writing ideas…  In Numeracy, we have been creating a shopping list and planning our way around Ballarat using the bus network to purchase these items.

Out of class, we have had students represent the school in female and mixed netball teams.  Well done to all those that participated.  We also have our teams practicing for EBT at lunchtimes, with some new personal bests being achieved.

Also, we are currently organizing some activities to raise funds for our Graduation at the end of the year.  Please see the below flyers of what we are doing, and any other details that are necessary.  Thanks to all those that will help support our cause!
