Some exciting BREAKING Maths News …
Last week, the Year 3 - 6 students from St.Patrick’s competed in the Victoria Rocks competition run by Times Table Rockstars, a maths platform used by the students in the middle and senior classes.
We participated alongside 226 other schools in Victoria and competed with vigor. It was with the amazing participation of the Year 3 - 6 mathletes that we attained a fantastic result to finish just outside the top 50 schools that placed us within the top 25% of registered Victorian schools in the competition.
An outstanding effort by all students who helped to contribute to our fantastic overall score with their quick responses to multiplication and division questions. We brought our best effort to our very first Times Tables Rockstar competition, the enthusiasm of the students was wonderful to watch and be a part of.
All students who participated are to be commended for their efforts as they were learning mathematical facts all while having fun and answering thousands of questions accurately as a school! However, there were three students who deserve an honorable mention and congratulations for their special efforts to help boost our results on the leaderboard and were the most valuable players in our school. They were:
Zachary B 5ID, Mark H 5ID and Andrew K 4AE.
Finally, an extra special shout out goes to Ms Isabelle Douglas and her 5ID class of superstars who placed just within the top 50 out of 1,582 registered classes and was the highest scoring class in our school.
What a sensational overall result by all and so much to be proud of!

Year 3 Take Maths Outside!
Last week, our Year 3 students swapped their desks for the great outdoors as they took their maths learning outside. Armed with chalk, rulers, and plenty of enthusiasm, the children explored real-world applications of measurement by estimating and measuring distances around the school.
By working in pairs, Year 3 students were also building communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. This hands-on approach to learning supports long-term memory and understanding. When children physically engage with the material such as writing, measuring, walking, comparing, they're more likely to retain and truly grasp the concepts. It's not just about numbers on a page; it’s about seeing maths in action all around them. A change of scenery sparked curiosity and creativity, turning a typical maths lesson into a memorable experience.
Well done, Year 3!
We can’t wait to see where your learning takes you next.
Thank you
Year 3 Staff.
