Year 4 News

Maths
Our students have made excellent progress consolidating their multiplication skills, working diligently to master their multiplication facts. This strong foundation is proving invaluable as they deepen their understanding of division concepts.
Currently, they are revising the language of division, becoming familiar with key terms like dividend, divisor, and quotient. They are exploring fact families to see the close relationship between multiplication and division, which helps strengthen their number sense. The class is actively practicing short division, both with and without remainders, building their confidence and accuracy. This careful, step-by-step approach is preparing them to confidently tackle division problems involving decimal points in the near future.
Regular practice at home with multiplication facts will further support their ongoing success in these areas.
Literacy Block
In literacy, students continue to build their independence through engaging reading comprehension tasks and by editing their writing for spelling and punctuation accuracy.
Our current reading focus is on fluency and expression, encouraging students to bring stories to life through tone and rhythm. Writing lessons have emphasized stretching sentences to make them more descriptive and interesting, helping students develop their creative and expressive skills.
A standout moment last week was our participation in National Simultaneous Story Week, centred on The Truck Cat by Deborah Frenkel. It was wonderful to connect with students nationwide as we watched and listened to the story together. Following the reading, students enjoyed expressing their creativity by drawing their own versions of the Truck Cat, reinforcing their comprehension and imagination.
Inquiry
How We Organise Ourselves
Students have shown genuine enthusiasm for learning about the Amazon Rainforest and its diverse animals. Combining their new knowledge with their sentence stretching skills, they wrote imaginative and informative recounts, imagining themselves as visitors to the Amazon River and Rainforest.
Alongside this, they have been developing their mapping skills by completing tasks that involve locating and describing key landmarks in South America. This work not only enhances their geographical understanding but also connects well with their broader inquiry into how people organize and interact with environments.
We’re very proud of the enthusiasm, creativity, and progress our students are demonstrating across all these learning areas!
District Cross Country
We are incredibly proud of our Year 4 students who represented our school at the recent District Cross Country event. Each student showed outstanding behaviour, sportsmanship, and enthusiasm throughout the day. From cheering on their teammates to giving their very best on the track, our Year 4’s truly embodied the spirit of participation and school pride.
Well done to everyone who took part—you represented our school beautifully!
