Principal's Report

The winter weather has finally arrived and as a result we are experiencing regular staff absences. The long weekend will provide a welcome relief for everyone as we approach the middle of the term.
We would like to inform you of two upcoming pupil-free days scheduled around the King’s Birthday public holiday. These days are important opportunities for staff professional learning and preparation, and no students will attend school on these dates, but the staff will be working at school.
The first pupil-free day will be held on Friday 6 June, prior to the King’s Birthday public holiday. On this day, all teaching staff will focus on reading and analysing student data to support teaching and learning. Staff will be participating in sessions with a department speaker and working collaboratively across year levels to moderate student work samples. This important work helps ensure consistent and high-quality assessment practices across the school.
The second pupil-free day is scheduled for Tuesday 10 June, following the public holiday. On this day, classroom teachers will be conducting parent-teacher interviews via Microsoft Teams. They will also use the day to plan for Term 3, focusing on curriculum development, building high-quality, purposeful teaching programs.
Specialist teachers will also be involved in professional development. They will spend the day unpacking our whole-school behaviour management plan and engaging in wellbeing strategy sessions, including a guest speaker-led session designed to support student wellbeing and engagement.
We appreciate your support as our staff take this time to connect and collaborate with colleagues to support student learning.
Basketball Courts
Following the success of the Colour Run and other fundraising initiatives this year, the Parents & Friends (P&F) Association has spent the past few months thoroughly researching a range of basketball court surfacing options. This has included meeting with multiple contractors and visiting other schools to inspect their court surfaces.
At last night’s School Council meeting, P&F presented their findings. The School Council has now given in-principal approval to proceed with obtaining final quotes and to begin the project.
There is still some work to be done before selecting the final provider, but we are hopeful that the project will be completed by the end of the year, weather permitting.
Lunch Clubs
Lunch clubs are up and running and the students are thoroughly enjoying the different clubs on offer.
Lunch Clubs are particularly appreciated by those students who find navigating the playground a little overwhelming. Some students struggle with the lack of structure in the playground and prefer activities that are guided by a teacher. Other students may find it difficult to initiate or maintain friendships or may be interested in quieter activities not usually available outside. Friendships blossom between children who find a common interest, and who they may not otherwise have met. Bringing students together from all year levels also supports buddy friendships and social groups.
The programs are organised and supervised by staff who generously share their expertise (and forego their lunch break!) to make Lunch Clubs a fun and valuable experience for students.
