From the Principal

Dear Parents and Carers,
I hope you've all had a wonderful week- it seemed to fly by us in our busy busy school!
On Saturday the Leadership Team from St Bede’s spent their time attending a Professional Development Day led by Professor Tom Bennett OBE. Tom Bennett is a behaviour advisor to the UK Government and multi-award-winning author of books such as Running the Room- The Teacher’s Guide to Behaviour. Tom speaks about principles that underpin excellent classroom management such as:
- Behaviour is a curriculum.
- Children must be taught how to behave.
- Teach, don’t tell, behaviour.
- Make it easy to behave and hard not to.
- No one behaviour strategy will work with all students.
- Good relationships are built out of structures and high expectations.
- Students are social beings.
- Consistency is the foundation of all good habits.
- Everyone wants to matter.
My room, my rules.
We all had a great day and were grateful for this opportunity.
Today we had a very excited group of Year 3/4 students head out to Hislop Park for the local district football carnival. They looked very professional in their St Bede's football jumpers as they began their walk to the park and I'm sure they will make us all proud.
The students are looking forward to our day of celebration tomorrow for the Feast Day of St Bede. The day begins for us with a whole school mass at 9.15am. Parents and friends are very welcome to join us. After mass Ms Murphy (our new Principal) will speak to the children and parents for the first time. In the middle session of the day the students will do some fun educational activities to learn more about St Bede.
At lunchtime our beautiful tuckshop mums and dads will be giving all the children sausages in bread and cupcakes! After lunch (weather permitting) we will have an extra fun afternoon of activities hosted by Kaboom Sports! Please note if poor weather causes the cancellation of Kaboom Sports we will reschedule for another day.
Reconciliation News
Just a reminder that our Sacrament of Reconciliation mass date is fast approaching.
It is Wednesday 4th June at 6pm.
All Grade 3 students will wear free dress and participate in a Reconciliation Faith Day on Monday 26th May.
Students making their Reconciliation will also join their parent/s for a Faith evening here at St Bede's on Thursday 29th May at 6:30pm in preparation for the sacrament.
Au Revoir
Today we sadly say goodbye and thankyou to Mrs Steph Power who is finishing up at St Bede's today. Steph has been working as a Learning Support Officer at St Bede's for 18 months now and has been a wonderful asset to our learning community.
The students are all enjoying exploring new games on the playground and our 'playground trial' will be reviewed at the end of this week. Thankyou for your parent feedback on this, we will take all into consideration.
Just a reminder that the gates open at 8.20am of a morning and children are directed out to the back playground for a play (where there is a staff member on duty) until teachers open their classroom doors at 8.30am.
District Cross Country
Last Friday, we had three students come first in their race at District Cross Country! Those being Benjamin Curtis, Isaac Pulvirenti and Leonardo Campagna- well done boys!
Lachie Curtis, Gus Nigro, Johnny Karbaliotis, Lucia Campagna, Ollie Lucas, Zoe Smith and Emilio Peluso also placed very well in their races and all will be off to the next stage- Division Cross Country.
School Website
We are looking at upgrading our school website. If you are a talented website designer or know of someone I would appreciate it if you could make contact with me at principal@sbedesbn.catholic.edu.au
Running Club
We have been pleased to have had a couple of great turn outs at our recent running clubs. I am sure many of our attendees will benefit from their running practice. Our running club will continue on Friday mornings 8am at Myrtle Park. Please email Mr Price if you need any further details.
PREP Enrolments - the time to enrol is now!
Prep enrolments are continuing to come in and we are currently organising enrolment interviews.
If you know of someone who is yet to enrol their child please encourage them to do so ASAP. Prep Enrolment interviews will be taking place in late May.
Assemblies
We would love more parents to come along and enjoy our school assemblies with us! They are now held on a Monday afternoon at 2.30pm in the school hall. This term the remaining assemblies will be in weeks 6 (next Monday) ,9 and 11.
Kindest regards,
Amanda
