WELLBEING & LEARNING DIVERSITY

Together for Humanity (TFH)
At the start of the year St Joseph’s was awarded a grant from Together For Humanity (TFH), an inclusive not-for-profit dedicated to combating prejudice and nurturing belonging across Australian school communities. TFH partners with schools through curriculum-aligned student programs, professional development for teachers and a suite of online learning resources. You can find out more about their work at https://togetherforhumanity.org.au/.
This term, Beau and Marg from TFH visited St Joseph’s to meet our TFH Senior Team. Together, they brainstormed and planned a series of initiatives designed to enrich our community’s intercultural and interfaith understanding. These discussions will guide the development of workshops and events that encourage empathy, respect and connection among our students.
On Thursday 15th and Thursday 22nd May, Marg and Beau delivered two outstanding Teacher Professional Learning courses for our staff. These sessions explored:
- The role of intercultural understanding in building inclusive school communities
- The importance of a whole-school approach to belonging and wellbeing
- How to connect intercultural perspectives to the Australian Curriculum
- The relationship between racism, belonging and student wellbeing
- Practical strategies for enhancing belonging in the classroom and beyond
- Identifying and responding to hurtful or harmful language
- Supporting students who experience racism and hate speech
Later this term, TFH will return to roll out student workshops drawn from ideas discussed with our Senior TFH Team. We look forward to sharing further details soon, and thank you for your ongoing support in creating a truly inclusive environment for every member of our school community.
