Dear Cassia parents and community,
Winter is upon us and the bright winter sunshine is shining joyfully in the Cassia Garden as children go about their play and work. Our bushwalks are getting longer as the children’s legs become more capable and their play is blossoming under the faraway tree. We are whittling in the garden and children work from a raw stick to whittle away the bark and sand and finally polish smooth sticks which they can take home.
In our classrooms we are busy making lanterns for our upcoming Winter Festival. The children have been painting, sticking, gluing and weaving to get their lantern houses ready to catch a spark of sunshine. Cassia families are warmly invited to join us on the 13th of June at 6:15pm. Please arrive no earlier than 6:10pm, warmly dressed and well fed. Families can bring their own lanterns too, to walk alongside their children who will carry the lanterns they made at school. This is a beautiful evening of song and warmth in community under the stars.
Song sheets will be coming home this week with winter songs for you to practice with your children at home if you like.
You are also invited to come on Wednesday 11th June at 2:30pm to practice singing with us in the garden.
Please continue to bring eggs for your class if you have any spare as each week, we are baking spinach pie. Homemade eggs taste the best and give the children an idea of the grand variety of different shapes and colours that happy chickens lay. Please also continue to dress your child warmly in layers, so they can take them off as the day warms up. It is easiest if all clothing items are labelled so they can find the right home at the end of the day.
Warmth is one of the foundational senses for young children to develop a strong sense of self. Through cosy clothing and warm feet, nutritious warm food and tea, hugs and joyful moments of song together, our children learn that though the days may be cold, the light that glows within each person burns brightly when we come together and celebrate the wonder of winter months.
