City Excursion

What a fun adventure the City Excursion was on Thursday!
The trip started bright and early for the ¾’s and ⅚’s, who embarked on a long bus journey, with a stopover at KooWee Rup, for a quick snack and play on the playground.
We then continued on to our first destination, The Immigration Museum. After morning tea, we entered the museum and were greeted onto Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung land and engaged in a range of activities that explored Melbourne’s diverse migrant stories, from different time periods in our city’s history. This was done using a range of museum artifacts donated by individuals to the museum. The student’s participated inquisitively in the education session and then explored the museum displays, using a passport style notebook to record their findings.
We then took a brisk and sunny walk along Southbank, in the sunshine, listening to music playing on the speakers above. The students happily chatted as they took in the sights of the Yarra River and skyscrapers soaring in the distance above them.
Our next stop was The Polly Woodside ship, built in 1885. Here we ate our lunch before taking an exciting tour above and below deck. Our students learnt about what life was like on board a tall ship in the past, exploring food rations, toilets, navigation and hierarchy. They were able to ring the bell, scrub the deck, steer the wheel, climb the yard arm and view the captain's quarters.
The students were truly wonderful on the day and represented Our Lady Star of the Sea very well. The teachers were all very proud of their respectful behaviour and engagement in learning. We would like to thank all our teaching and support staff for helping to make this such a fun and successful day.
