Grade 3 News

What a week of Learning!

In Literacy, we have been continuing to read ‘Yirra and her deadly dog, Demon!’. Yirra is having a difficult time trying to train her very naughty dog Demon.

Demon keeps getting into trouble, by taking peoples shoes and underwear, so Yirra is trying to be responsible by cleaning up.

She needs to continue to work out how to train Demon or she won't be able to go on her school excursion.

This book is written in conjunction with Anita Heiss, by a small group of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.

There are lots of key words to add into our vocabulary lists such as disastrous, distracted and putrid.

In Maths, our focus has been on length, using words such as mm, cm, m and km.

We have been measuring everything in our classroom, from books to water bottles, pins to tables.

The students have been estimating what they believe the measurements should be based on their prior knowledge and then measuring the objects with rulers and tape measures. This has been a fun and engaging topic, with many students using tape measures for the first time!

In Religion, we have been looking at well-known people who are associated with the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Some of these people are Mother Tersa, Cathy Freeman, Pope Francis and Fred Hollows.

Well done Miss Cummins’ class for winning the Bernie Trophy and our Grade 3 award winners over the last fortnight.
