Foundation News

We are now almost halfway through Term Two, and it’s been fantastic to see how much progress our students have made so far.

In Literacy, we have begun to look at decodable readers, putting together the letters and their sounds. We have also sent home the students' first ‘reader’, in their reader bag.

We ask that this returns to school each Monday so we can swap them over.

The reader will contain letters and sounds that students are familiar with.

However, we do not expect your child to be able to read the whole book fluently at this stage, please read through the first few pages which will help you guide them along.

This week in writing, students have been learning how to write sentences. We’ve been practicing:

  • Using a capital letter at the beginning of a sentence,
  • Leaving spaces between words, and
  • Adding a full stop at the end.

Students have enjoyed putting these skills into action, and it’s been lovely to see their confidence growing with each writing task.

In maths, we’ve been working with numbers up to 20.

Students are developing their counting strategies, including:

  • Counting forwards and backwards,
  • And counting one at a time with accuracy.

These foundational skills are essential for building number sense, and we encourage you to practise counting together at home whenever possible!

In Religion we have been looking at Our Catholic Church, both in a physical sense and what it means to be part of this both in our school and community.
