Visual Arts

Grade 5

Grade 5 continued to explore the work and themes of Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama these past two weeks. These op art tubes were inspired by her infinity rooms in her recent NGV exhibition.

Grade 4

Grade 4 are soon to read the text “The Arrival” by Shaun Tan. The illustrations in this text are either black and white or sepia. Students explored different texture effects using pen and graphite pencils before scratching their favourite texture patterns into scratch back paper, similar to the hatching and cross hatching used in the text illustrations.

Grade 3

Grade 3 are currently exploring the work of Swiss German artist Paul Klee. These line drawings are in response to his painting ‘Castle and Sun’.

Grade 2

Grade 2 began looking at the work of Vincent Van Gogh, starting with his almond blossom painting that was a gift for his nephew. The students used different shades of blue on their background; stampers for the blossom and gold pen details.

Grade 1

Grade 1 did some problem solving with popsticks last week.

Students were given 10 popsticks and were asked to make houses with them. Students rearranged their sticks to their liking before gluing down and colouring in the background.
