Reconciliation Week
Every year, the 27th of May to 3rd of June is National Reconciliation Week. This is an important event that recognises the harm colonisation has had on the First Nations Peoples of Australia and drives action towards a creating a better future for all Australians.
At Williamstown Campus, to show our support for all of the First Nations Peoples in our school community, we invited students to "Wear It Yellow" to school on the 30th of May. We also changed the bell music to feature all First Nations artists for the week and ran a competition for students to guess the theme. The winner of the competition was Rose Harrold-Bear, who identified the theme only a couple of hours after the music had been changed, well done Rose!
Bayside P-12 College acknowledges Bunurong People of the Kulin Nation as the Traditional Owners of the land on which work, learn and play, and pay our respects to Elders past present, and emerging. Always was, always will be Aboriginal Land.
Japanese Incursion
Tuesday 20th May, our school was treated to a unique cultural experience with a special Rakugo incursion — a traditional form of Japanese comedic storytelling that dates back to the Edo period (1603–1868).
Students gathered in the hall to watch a professional Rakugo performer who brought to life a series of humorous tales using only a folding fan (sensu) and a small cloth (tenugui) as props. Sitting in the traditional seiza position on the stage, the storyteller switched between multiple characters with just slight changes in voice, facial expression, and posture — keeping everyone engaged and entertained!
Many students were inspired to try their hand at Rakugo, and some even got to practice short routines during a fun interactive session. It was a memorable way to explore Japanese culture through humor and performance.
すばらしい経験になりました!(Great experience!)

Student are completing this for their next unit of work which is about urban landscapes and change. They enjoyed the sunshine and surrounds to develop a sensory writing piece in the setting.
