Weeks 4, 5 and 6 have been dynamic and meaningful for our Year 3 and 4 students, filled with exciting excursions, hands-on learning, and opportunities for deep reflection.
Students were captivated by the sounds and stories shared during their visit to the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. The live performance offered a beautiful connection to music and emotions, sparking rich discussions back in the classroom about instruments, rhythm, and how music tells a story.
In recognition of Sorry Day, students engaged in thoughtful class discussions and participated in age-appropriate activities to understand the significance of this day in Australia’s history. Students reflected on the importance of acknowledging the past and showing respect and empathy for the experiences of First Nations Peoples.
Our Literacy block continues to be a time of lively learning. Students have been using dictionaries to explore new vocabulary, improve their spelling, and develop a deeper understanding of words in context. We’ve also focused on building comprehension through a variety of strategies, including summarising, making inferences, visualising and asking questions before, during and after reading.
In Numeracy, students have been diving into the world of measurement. Through hands-on activities, they have been learning how to measure length accurately, calculate perimeter and begin exploring the concept of area. Real-world tasks such as designing mini playground maps and comparing classroom items have made these concepts both relevant and engaging.
As part of our Inquiry unit, students are investigating how different forces operate in playgrounds. From pushes and pulls to gravity and friction, students are exploring how science makes play possible. Through experiments, discussion, and planning, they are beginning to design their own moving playground parts, linking science with creativity and problem-solving.
We’re so proud of the curiosity, care and creativity shown by our students this term. We can’t wait to see what they explore next!
