Dear Clayton North Primary School Community

We are past the halfway mark of Term 2, and nudging Winter!

I want to begin my message by thanking all parents and families for supporting us with the student-free day last Wednesday. I understand the inconvenience of finding suitable care for young children, so we do appreciate your support. These days are important as they allow school staff to engage in professional learning, curriculum development, school planning and administration, all of which have an impact on student learning and well-being.

The area of focus last week was supporting all staff in developing a better understanding of classroom adjustments to cater for students with diverse learning needs. The Government's approach to inclusive education provides extra support for students with disability in Victorian Government schools. Clayton North PS is moving to the Disability Inclusion framework this year. This a strengths-based approach where schools make educational adjustments for individual students. Time was well utilised with meaningful activities and the opportunity to discuss and share a range of adjustments that are already occurring in our school.

Education Support Staff Appreciation Day

The 16th of May was Education Support Staff Day. I would like to thank all our Education Support staff for the work that they do. Kym, Gaya and Linda, our office staff, do an outstanding job in all aspects of office administration, customer service, first aid, HR and finance matters. Emma, Pramodha, Herlina and Kathie provide excellent support to teachers, parents, and students with additional needs and are patient and caring. We acknowledged our ES staff, their efforts and the tireless, and often unseen work they do, with a morning tea this week. I encourage all families to thank our Education Support staff when you see them next. Without our ES staff, our school would not run as smoothly as it does!

Semester 1 Reports and Parent-Teacher Interviews

Over the last few weeks, teachers have been busy discussing assessment practices and data measures in order to provide an accurate and comprehensive evaluation of student achievement and progress this semester. Your child’s report will be available in Compass on Monday June 30.

Parent-Teacher Interviews are scheduled for the second week of Term 3, on Tuesday 29th and Wednesday 30th July. These interviews provide an important opportunity for you to discuss your child’s progress and to build communication between parents and the school. The Compass booking portal will open at 4pm on Wednesday 2nd July. Please note that Compass online bookings are preferred. If you require assistance with logins and passwords, please contact the school.

2025 Student Attitudes to School Survey

Josie and I are currently meeting with Year 4-6 students to respond to the student survey. We have had a chance to discuss their thoughts on our school and unpack some of the wonderful things we do and areas for further improvement. Our particular focus was on student learning, teacher concern, and advocate at school.  Students then participated in the AToSS with a deeper knowledge and understanding of the school, questions and vocabulary.

School Uniform

I recently signed off on the artwork and our school uniform bearing the new school logo has gone into production. We expect that they will be available at PSW, our uniform provider, early Term 4.

We have added an extra item to the winter uniform range - a polar fleece jacket. At a cost of $50, this will offer another layer of warmth that is much needed in the winter months, especially in Melbourne.

All new students to the CNPS in 2026, including Foundation students, will be expected to wear uniform with our new school logo. A transition period of 12-18 months will see the whole school move across.

In the meantime, PSW has a substantial stock of our current uniform. You can use your School Saver Bonus funds towards purchasing school uniform. It's great to see the children looking so smart in their orange and green!

A reminder that any SSB funds remaining after 30 June 2025, including online voucher amounts that have not been redeemed, will become a credit to use for school activities. However, the credit will not be available on your family account at our school until late July. Please note that remaining funds DO NOT get credited to your personal bank account.
