Thank You : Parent Teacher Night

Thank you to all parents that attended our first parent teacher evening for 2026 last week.

It was a great chance to catch up and connect with your child's teachers. Touching base around progress and keeping lines of communication open between yourselves, your child and the school is important for success. Your attendance was appreciated and it displays the value you place in education.

Our next parent teacher evening will be in the middle of term 3 and we look forward to seeing you there.

Remember if there are any pressing issues that occur prior to this second evening feel free to contact the school and organise individual meetings with co-ordinators or teachers.

Regards,

Tony Cashin

Assistant Principal

Safety Alert for Poisonous Mushrooms

Understand and share advice about wild mushrooms on school grounds

All school staff and students should be aware of the dangers of wild mushrooms. These mushrooms can grow on school grounds.

The Victorian Department of Health chief health officer issued a health advisory alert on Monday 20 April 2026. It warns about the danger of eating potentially poisonous mushrooms.

These include death cap mushrooms and yellow-staining mushrooms. These grow in metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria. For images, refer to the Better Health Channel Mushroom poisoning webpage.

The toxin in death cap mushrooms remains even after cooking, peeling or drying. Eating them can cause nausea, stomach cramps and liver damage. In some cases, it can lead to death.

Yellow-staining mushrooms look like field mushrooms commonly found in supermarkets. They can be harmful if eaten. Symptoms can include nausea, stomach cramps, vomiting and diarrhoea. The severity of symptoms varies with the amount eaten.

You should monitor school grounds for mushroom growth. Please share the information in this article with your staff.

What to do if you find mushrooms on school grounds

If mushrooms are found on school grounds, submit a hazard report through eduSafe Plus.

Do not pick or eat wild mushrooms. Please let your students know about the dangers of these mushrooms and tell them not to touch any mushrooms. School staff should:

  • while wearing gloves, pick and remove any mushrooms growing

  • carefully place mushrooms and used gloves in a bag and put the bag in a closed rubbish bin

  • wash hands thoroughly.

For further advice, contact the Victorian Poisons Information Centre on 13 11 26. The service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

What to do if a mushroom is eaten on school grounds

If you suspect mushroom poisoning, phone Triple Zero (000) immediately. Do not wait for symptoms to occur before seeking medical attention.

If poisoning has occurred and emergency services have attended the school, this is a ‘High’ or ‘Extreme’ severity incident. The principal (or delegate) must contact our Incident Support and Operations Centre on 1800 126 126 to report the incident.

Please collect any remaining mushrooms using the same safety steps as noted above. Please also photograph a sample of the eaten mushroom in case further expert identification is needed.
