Old Boy’s Careers Information Evening
On Tuesday, 5 May, the College held the Old Boys Careers Information Evening for students in Year 11 and Year 12. The evening provided students with a valuable opportunity to explore a wide range of career pathways and hear firsthand from Old Boys about their experiences after school. For many students who may still be uncertain about their future direction, the event offered inspiration, practical advice and greater clarity about the pathways available to them.
Throughout the evening, students attended three presentations in career areas of their choice. Our Old Boy presenters shared insights into their professions, including the nature of their work, university and training requirements, career prospects and the steps they took to achieve their goals. Most importantly, they spoke openly about their own journeys, highlighting the importance of persistence, adaptability and lifelong learning in an ever-changing world of work.
Through our touchstone of Liberating Education, we aim to equip students with the confidence, knowledge and skills to navigate a dynamic future. By fostering curiosity, resilience and self-belief, we encourage students to pursue meaningful pathways aligned with their interests and strengths. The achievements and experiences shared by our Old Boys on the evening reflected the positive impact of this approach and demonstrated the many different pathways to success.
As one student reflected: “The Old Boys were very knowledgeable explained their experiences in a way that answered many of the questions I had before attending the presentations.”
A key message reinforced throughout the evening was that no career pathway is without challenges. Success requires hard work, determination, resilience and confidence in oneself. However, the presenters also emphasised that pursuing a career you genuinely enjoy makes the journey worthwhile.
This year we expanded the diversity of career areas represented to 28 career fields which meant that each of our students had something that was of interest.
In total, 62 Old Boys generously gave up their time to support our students and share their experiences. Their willingness to return to the College and give back to the next generation of Old Boys is a wonderful reflection of the strong sense of community that continues to exist within the College.
