Staffing

This week, we welcomed back Prep teacher Mrs Sharon Kelly from her extended leave. A big thank you to Mrs Emma Weatherly and Mrs Peta Alexander for their professionalism and flexibility in teaching the Prep class in Mrs Kelly’s absence. The students have enjoyed an excellent start to the school year.

Mother's Day Celebration

I trust all ELC and Junior School mums enjoyed a lovely Mother’s Day on Sunday. It was wonderful to welcome many mums last Wednesday, Thursday and Friday to our Mother’s Day celebrations.

Thank you to students Lucy Cameron, Mila McCabe, Anika Nelson, Annie Barber, Hazel Johns, Violet Shrive, Maggie Wallis and Amina Barrera for the wonderful music they provided.

Learning and Personal Development

Our Junior School Semester One Report templates are being finalised in Toddle. I thank Mr Tim Cameron for all his efforts as we navigate this new platform.

We have added a ‘Learning Behaviours’ section that will appear under each subject areaDrop-downs will appear, with class and specialist teachers using the following scale - Rarely, Sometimes, Frequently and Consistently to assess each student’s attitude and aptitude in the following areas.

  • Engagement and Participation
  • Effort and Persistence
  • Organisational Skills
  • Expected Behaviours and Self-Regulation
  • Manners and Respectful Communication

Manners and Respectful Communication align closely with the College value of Respect. We are indeed fortunate that courtesy and good manners are consistently evident throughout our ELC and Junior School. I read with interest John Silvester’s recent ‘Insight’ article in last Saturday’s The Age. Silvester was recounting his childhood in Melbourne.

He mentions his mother and her views on manners - ‘To her, the rules of good manners were unbreakable statutes. One never ate while walking along a street; you would ask ‘May I’ and never ‘Can I’. Eating in front of the television was an activity restricted to the incapacitated or those living in caravans. There was an excuse for old shoes, but not dirty ones. Children gave way to adults on a footpath  -not barge along in a straight line, head over a mobile device. We would hold doors open for others; now we cut them off in traffic. We would say please and thank you to those who provided us with hospitality. Now there are signs telling us not to abuse them.’

Division Athletics

Congratulations to the members of our Division Athletics team who participated with great energy and enthusiasm in Warrnambool last week at the SSV Division Athletics Carnival.  Congratulations to those students who finished in the top 6 on the track, top 3 in the field and top 3 in relay events to qualify to compete in Ballarat after a wonderful team effort in Warrnambool. This is a wonderful achievement and we all look forward to supporting you all at the next stage in October!
