Shine the Light

Year 1
Year 1's have been enjoying learning about various aspects of life from the past in Inquiry and English. So far, they have explored what schools and homes were like in the past. Today in class, they made their own butter using cream and jars. It was lots of fun working together as a group to watch the butter being made!
Year 2
Understanding our emotions
Over the past few weeks, our Year 2 students have been flourishing as they explore emotions, self‑regulation, and the Zones of Regulation through our Positive Education program. Their learning has been hands‑on, creative, and deeply reflective as they build the skills to understand, name, and manage their feelings.
Understanding the Zones
Students learned what each Zone means and how it might feel in their bodies. They created colour‑coded posters showing the Blue, Green, Yellow, and Red Zones, using images, symbols, and student‑friendly language to explain each one.
Building a Personal Regulation Toolkit
Each child has been developing their own set of strategies to help them return to the Green Zone. These include:
- Balloon breathing
- Glitter jars
- Calming cards
- Positive self‑talk
- Movement breaks
Students loved experimenting with different tools and identifying which strategies worked best for them.
Showcase of Learning
To celebrate their growth, students created artworks and posters representing emotions, body cues, and regulation strategies. These pieces were proudly displayed in the school hall, highlighting:
- expressive emotion art
- Zones of Regulation posters
- toolkit illustrations
- reflection pieces about “What helps me feel calmSupporting Wellbeing Through Positive Education
These lessons have helped students:
- build emotional vocabulary
- recognise early signs of dysregulation
- practise strategies to return to calm
- support peers with empathy and kindness
- understand that all emotions are valid
Our Year 2s have shown maturity, creativity, and genuine enthusiasm as they learn how to take care of their wellbeing and support others.
A huge thank you to Ms Tobin, Mrs Keeley, Mrs Martic, and Mrs LaFauci for their dedication, creativity, and the incredible support they have provided throughout this unit. Their guidance has helped our Year 2 students feel confident, safe, and empowered as they learn to understand and regulate their emotions.
Year 3
In Year 3, we have been learning a range of strategies to help us solve subtraction problems. Some of the strategies we have explored include using number lines, the split strategy, and compensation.
Year 4
After finishing all classwork in Inquiry, students were offered an extension task based on the illnesses that people experienced during the First Fleet. We pretended we were doctors and we filled in our own incident reports. We got to choose a disease of our choice from Scurvy, Typhus, Dysentery and Smallpox. Maddie did an incident report about Smallpox which reminded us of the name CHICKENPOX! Levi did an incident report about Dysentery.
Year 5
This fortnight in Year 5 we made a scale for our inquiry unit about the gold rush. In groups we had to make scales out of limited materials we had heaps of fun. These are some of our creations.
Year 6
The Year 6 students have been busy preparing for the sacrament of Confirmation. They attended an Information Night with their families and St Margaret's, a Reflection Day, the pre-sacrament of Reconciliation and lots of practice. The Saint projects are in full swing in readiness for their Confirmation next Thursday. The artwork will decorate the Church on the big day.
