Sport

- Miss Elly Dixon, Director of Sport

This week, we are proud to release the 2024 Senior Sport Handbook. My thanks go to our sports captains, Sports Prefect Daniel Su and the marketing team for their assistance in putting it together. To echo Miss Waldron, we are proud of the array of sporting opportunities provided to our students at College. This handbook includes information about Captains, Heads of Sport (teaching), contact details, training schedules and proposed competition dates. We hope it sparks the interest of our young people to try something new, build on endurance and technique or enhance their preseason training.

The handbook can be accessed via the link https://tha.ac/sports, or by scanning the QR code below.

Athletics

With Athletics Day soon approaching, we will start having training every Tuesday and Thursday to prepare. These trainings will start Tuesday  27 February and continue through until Tuesday 7 May.

To begin with, Tuesday’s training will be held after school and will focus on running events, and Thursdays will be during lunchtime and focus on field events.

Those who want to train on Thursday lunch times will have time at the end to each lunch and get changed, the training will not go for the whole of lunch.

Students don’t have to attend both trainings, but we encourage everyone to attend at least once a week. We will send out more information about the training on TEAMS so students can keep an eye out for that.

The aim of these training can be to prepare and practice for our upcoming school athletics carnival, GD athletics and ICCES, or they can be used as preseason training or just as a form of exercise. We will have some planned running drills that students can participate in, or they are welcome to do independent training, and anyone is welcome to give it a go!

Cricket

The Hamilton and Alexandra College First IX cricketers made their mark in Ballarat last Sunday as they clashed with the Ballarat Grammar team in the inaugural College v Grammar cricket match.

The College cricket team, comprising Year 10 to 12 students, displayed their ability as they ventured to Ballarat for the 40-over encounter against Grammar. Taking to the pitch first, the College team exhibited composure with the bat.

Several students shone during the match, with Year 12 student Jack Wortley, emerging as the highest scorer with an unbeaten 66 runs, closely followed by Year 11, Will Mackellar, Malvern, with an impressive 42.

Not to be outdone, in Year 10, Myles Alderman showcased his bowling finesse by claiming four crucial wickets, while Year 12, Eli Hunter and Year 10, Will Bourke, secured three and two wickets, respectively.

Steering the First IX team with finesse, Wortley, who also serves as the team's captain, exuded jubilation at securing victory on Ballarat Grammar's home turf. "We had a fantastic win on Sunday. The team displayed remarkable cohesion and sportsmanship, both on and off the field. I commend Myles Alderman for his exceptional bowling and dedication," shared an elated Jack Wortley.

Underlining the leadership opportunities at The Hamilton and Alexandra College, Jack Wortley's commanding presence as a strong leader on the cricket field was evident, further reinforcing the College’s commitment to fostering well-rounded individuals across all co-curricular activities.

College XI will meet Monivae this Sunday for the annual match, sure to be infused with a strong competitive spirit, fuelling the players' determination for both schools.
