Allô!

As you may know, I have been lucky enough to enjoy three days away with the Grade 5's and 6's on their camp in Licola.  It's always fantastic to get to know the children out of the classroom and see their enthusiasm tackling activities that nudge their comfort zones and test their resilience.  With tremendous effort, great team work and perfect weather across the board I feel privileged to have been part of this journey with our senior students.

On behalf of the St Laurence O'Toole Primary School community I would like to congratulate to Jordan Christensen, Archer McRae and Lenny Vella for representing our school at the regional swimming.  We are still waiting on results and will publish these as soon as they become available.

A shout out too, to Frankie Roberts in Grade 1/2F who entered her Lego creation into the Korumburra Show and came first in the Foundation-Grade 3 age group.   Frankie brought her Lego creation in to share with her class and we are all very proud of her efforts and creativity.

As we move into the last two weeks of term, I would like to encourage you to read regularly with your child at home, whether that be reading to them, with them or listening to them read. It is widely reported that children who have a consistent at-home reading routine, improve their reading levels at a faster pace than those who don’t.

Reading aloud together can not only build vocabulary and improve reading skills, it can also foster a sense of closeness between you and your child. Read books (or magazines, cartoons or news articles) that interest your child, encourage discussion about characters or subjects and share your reactions to help reinforce the connection between what you read and everyday life.  Bonne lecture!

Jusqu'à la prochaine fois
