F/1/2 News

The F/1/2 class are continuing to settle into school expectations and learning about how we can be the best learners that we can be.

Over the past few weeks, we continued to focus on Number in Maths. The students developed their knowledge about number formation, place value and greater than/less than. We have now started working on our new unit Position and Movement. In this unit, the students will focus on describing the position of an object in relation to another object, giving directions, and following directions to reach a target.

In English, we have continued learning about our sounds and the Foundation students have begun blending the sounds /s/, /a/, /t/, /p/ and /i/ to read words. The Grade 1/2s have been revising these sounds and learning more complex phoneme/grapheme (sound/letters) patterns through their spelling, such as ge, dge, zz, ss, ll, and ff. We have also been focusing on what makes a sentence, in particular that it needs a noun, verb, punctuation and to make sense. The students are becoming more adept at identifying the noun and verb in basic sentences. Over the coming weeks, we will be learning about expanding on our sentences by adding where and when details.

In Subject Focus (formally Cross Curriculum), we will be moving on from learning about belonging to place and how we change/don’t change over time, to looking at the weather, seasons and geography concepts.

In Religion, we have been working on our unit “Called to live like Jesus”. In this unit, the students will develop the following skills:

  1. Identify their own needs and the needs of other people in their world.
  2. Demonstrate ways in which they can be kind and care for people as Jesus showed us.

In Health we have been learning about our body. The students enjoyed going outside and tracing their outlines, so that we could label some parts of the body that we already know, such as arms, legs, head, elbow, ankle, foot, etc.

3/4 News

This fortnight in the grade 3/4 room we have been learning about addition, Subtraction and Persuasive writing. We have designed some really ugly sweaters along with writing pieces to convince the reader that their sweater is the ugliest.

Everyone has done a great job following the structure of persuasive writing.

In religion we have started learning about Lent. We know that lent is a time for new beginnings, because of this we have planted some seeds (that represent new beginnings) in the garden to grow some pumpkins and capsicums.

Last week we had a visit from the local Police. It was great to see Shane and Rob at school sharing some tips on being safe in the community and online. Everyone had really great questions for them including questions about how often police eat doughnuts!
