Grade 2
Weeks 3 and 4 in Grade 2 have been full steam ahead as we dive into everything we need to learn! Here is what is going on in our amazing Grade 2 classes...
Initialit:
We have been working hard in Initialit, which has seen us learning new spelling rules, reading some funny stories and learning new tricky words! Our tricky words these last two weeks were: February, were, friend, woman, home and where. Feel free to practise these more at home with your children. Students have enjoyed the mix of lessons and we are so proud of how hard they are working!
Maths:
In Maths right now we are learning all about place value, and how our numbers work. We are learning how to write numbers in words, how to partition a number into its ones, tens and hundreds, and then write our numbers in expanded form. With a variety of hands-on activities, funny videos, songs and games, we hope to build a strong foundation for the students to build their numeracy skills on for years to come. Check out one of the songs we watched here! Just scan the QR Code.
Integrated:
This term we are learning all about our personal history and the history of our families. Students have looked at some stories and timelines of famous people, and have completed activities where they work to create a timeline of the important events of their lives, and will soon be coming home with some interview questions to ask a Grandparent, parent or family member. The aim will be to compare what life is like right now with how it was when their family member was younger. Keep an eye on your email for the information about these interviews.
Kids Roar!
Grade 2’s also optionally participated in the Kids Roar program this week. This one hour session helps promote child safety, speaking up when they don’t feel safe and working out who they can talk to when problems arise. Students have completed “Safety Hand” which is designed to be filled with the names of grown ups they can trust, and should be displayed somewhere in their home where they can look at it anytime.
Library:
Students are now borrowing books from the Library. Please check your Library day here and make sure your child’s book comes back to school on that day. Books should always be kept in their blue pouches to keep them safe and protected. Students should be reading 3 - 4 nights a week at the minimum at this age level.
