During Lent, we will be raising funds for Project Compassion. In Heart Learning, we are learning about Project Compassion, and this years focal people Ronita, Mercy and Leaia.
Ronita's story
Ronita is 22. She lives with her husband and two children in Metro Manila, the Philippines. Ronita left school early to start her family which made it very difficult to find a good job. Thankfully she heard about a program run by Caritas Australia’s local partner, the Faithful Companions of Jesus (FCJ). Ronita was able to join the Alternative Learning System program. Completing this program was a pathway back to senior school where she completed her senior school certificate. Ronita now has a job and is able to support her family.
Leaia lives in Samoa. Not having access to a reliable source of clean water was very difficult for Leaia and her family. But with the support of Caritas Australia, a rainwater tank was installed at their home, improving their health and living conditions.
Memory lives in Malawi. As the eldest child in a low-income farming family, Memory faced many barriers to her education. But with the support of Caritas Australia she enrolled in a technical school and became the first female carpenter in her village.
On Ash Wednesday, your child would have received a project compassion box. Please put any loose change in these and then return to school in Week 11 where we will celebrate the joy of Easter with a Caritas Carnival. Stay tuned for more information.
If your child is aged 7 or over and a baptised Catholic, they are invited to take part in the next stage of the Sacramental journey, celebrating the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Confirmation and first Holy Communion. Letters have gone home but if you have not received these and wish for your child to complete their Sacraments this year please contact me at pburns@stb.catholic.edu.au for more information. The next session for Reconciliation is on Wednesday 13th March at 6:15 at Good Shepherd Church, Clearview. Your child MUST complete Reconciliation before completing Confirmation and First Holy Communion.
