Letter Recognition and Sound

In Foundation, we have been learning to recognise letters and their sounds.

The letters that we have focused on so far are Mm, Ss, Ff, Aa, Pp, Tt, Cc, Ii and Bb.

This week we have learnt the letters Hh, Nn and Oo.

Earth and Space Science: We are learning to identify and describe the weather. 

VOCABULARY

Letter recognition: the ability to recognise letters by name, shape and sound.

Weather: the sun, wind, rain, storms and clouds that influence the temperature.

Ask your child to find one of their letters in a book, and to say its name and the sound that it makes. 

Earth and Space Science

Go outside together, lay down and look up at the sky. Ask your child:

• What do you see in the sky?
• What does the weather feel like today?
• Can you feel the sun? The wind?

Ask your child to look closely at the sky, and remember what it looks like. Go inside and encourage your child to draw what they saw in the sky. Was it the trees blowing in the wind? The sun in the sky with birds flying over the top?
