Koorie Champions & Multicultural Club
Koorie Champions:
This term, our school has been very fortunate to have Tristan Harris (Uncle Pancakes) from BADAC working with our male Koorie students. Tristan is running the Burron Guli - Boys to Men Program where the students are having discussions around healthy relationships, men’s business, positive views about women, self-awareness and connection to culture.
All of the boys who have participated in the program have really enjoyed having Tristan and his special guests share stories, artefacts, songlines and dance – helping them to connect with their culture.
The sessions follow Burron Guli ‘Lore’ (Love, Respect, Safety, Responsibility) and will conclude with a special ceremony at the end of term where the boys will graduate from the program.
We are very excited to also announce that in Term 2 we will be running a similar program for our female Koorie students called the Healing Sista’s Program which will be facilitated by Proud Gunditjmara Daenbanjeeri Haby.
If you would like to know more about these programs please feel free to reach out to the school.
Brandon Egan, Koorie Curriculum Leader
Multicultural Club:
In the Multicultural Club this term, we have had our initial meetings to discuss the foundations of our club for this year. Students have been very vocal and supportive of the program and are working hard to ensure that the club is inclusive, supportive and focussed on building understanding within our school community. Our student leaders in Grade 6 are looking forward to giving their student voice into developing this space.
We would like to extend our welcome to all students in our community regardless of their cultural background to come and attend activity sessions at lunchtime on Thursdays. Over the next few weeks, we will be discussing how we can work together to promote understanding and kindness in our school.
Throughout the year we will be looking at how we can celebrate and learn more about the many different cultures that make up our wonderful community. We hope to be able to have opportunities to invite our wider community to share their culture with our school.
If you have any questions or would like to see how your child could participate in this program please feel free to contact the school and speak to Mr Egan or Laura.
