From The Principal's Desk

Dear Parents and Carers,

This week we had a number of events that took place.  Here is brief summation of them.

On Monday we had our Grade 2's commence their Swimming program and enjoyed the ability to catch our new 25-seater school bus.

On Tuesday and Wednesday our Grade 5's attended the Sovereign Hill Costume school and experienced some hot days on the goldfields. Unfortunately, no nuggets were found to make anyone rich!

On Wednesday at assembly, we presented our next group of up and coming leaders in the school with the badges for the 2024 Junior School Council (JSC). Our JSC is an integral part of giving the students a voice in the school and they will work with Mrs Svilicic to act on some improvements they would like to see happening around the school.  Unfortunately, a water slide is not one I can make happen!

To cap off the week we held our School Athletics for Grades 3-6 and reminded us how lucky we are to be able to hold this event on our own school grounds.

Last Thursday 29th February was the Census Day for Victorian Government schools.  Our school enrolment for 2024 is 575 students, which is quite a big increase from the 516 students from last year.  Enrolments can continue to occur in schools beyond this date but funding for schools is taken from the Census date.

Last week I attended the Grade 6 Camp with the students and staff and we managed to see the sites of Melbourne and navigate our way through the train and tram network without too many issues (apart from the long train ride home due to the extreme heat policy). Our students did a terrific job of walking from activity to activity and importantly our staff (many who were new to the Melbourne Camp) supported the students to ensure it ran smoothly. Our Grade 6 students proudly represented our school at various sites such as the Shrine and MCG and were able to enjoy each other's company and get to sleep without too many distractions.

Grade 6 Tops

You may have seen some of our Grade 6 students around this week representing our Grade 6 T-Shirts for 2024. The tops were handed out last Friday afternoon, ready just in time for our students to wear for the first time while on Grade 6 Camp. The design was created and voted on by the students last year.

Sporting schools in action

Every lunchtime we have activities for our students to become involved in. Below in the picture are our students practising their relay running and really enjoying it.

Grade 4 Shade sail

On Tuesday the shade sail above the Grade 4 portables was completed, providing some extra shade in summer and enough cover from rain in winter.  It also provides connection to the main building of our school.

School Council

On Monday I was able to allocate all of our nominated parents and staff members to positions on the School Council.  The School Council plays a part in shaping the direction taken by our school.  Below is a list of the members of the Delacombe PS School Council:

Daniel Cook, Mark Wall, Anita O’Neill, Felicity Hickingbotham, Marnee Charles, Martijn Verheij, Breanna Tauschke, Amanda Anderson, Stephanie Lindsay, Danielle McCann, Marnie Cooper, Scott Phillips, Kate McDonald, Briony Oldaker, Michael Columbro, Brendan Arriagada

Annual General meeting

On Monday 25th March we will be holding our Annual General meeting and be tabling the Annual Report for 2023 in the School Staffroom at 6.45pm. The AGM will detail the achievements for 2023 and include department data to support this document. If you wish to attend the AGM and you are not on the School Council, please let us know as you are most welcome to attend.
