 Why Attendance at School Matters

Regular attendance at school lays the foundation for success both academically and socially. Each day of learning builds upon the last, creating a cumulative effect that is vital to your child's progress. Consistent attendance allows your child to develop routines and maximise the learning opportunities essential for success in school and beyond.

Every missed day of school represents a missed opportunity for learning, discussions, hands-on activities, and collaborative group work, all of which contribute to your child's learning development. Prioritising attendance is essential as it gives your child the best chance to thrive academically and unlock their potential as a learner.

Regular attendance allows your child to connect with peers and teachers and become a part of the school community. These relationships provide crucial support networks and enrich your child's educational experience.

Common issues that contribute to school absences include:

  • anxiety related to being separated from family
  • difficulty managing the sensory demands of school
  • concern about social interactions and demands
  • changes in the school environment, e.g. transition from primary to secondary school, changing teachers, or camp
  • difficulties with their relationship with their teacher
  • learning difficulties
  • bullying and or friendship issues
  • changes/challenges at home
  • mental health issues.

Please contact your child’s teacher or the Learning Diversity Leader if your child is experiencing any of these difficulties. We must work together to ensure your child is at school every day.
