Koori Leadership Meeting

On Wednesday the students came together during their lunchtime for their first Koori Leadership Meeting.  They brainstormed some ideas around what they would like to do and experience in the space of their Indigenous Culture.

Paul Clarke who is the Koori Education Support Officer from the Department of Education attended and enjoyed being able to put faces to names. Paul explained a bit about his role and his background.

Taya Munro read the Acknowledgment of Country and the students then brainstormed some ideas with each other.  The students had lots of ideas including attending Cultural Performances, learning craft, learning instruments, dot painting, learning about local tribes, designing a shirt for students and designing a mural for the school.

Many of the students were keen to be involved in the Leadership Team which was fantastic.  Our next meeting will be in two weeks.  At this meeting we will be identifying which of the “bigger” ideas the students would like to prioritise.   We will also try and organise an activity for the students to engage in before the end of term.
