Principal Report

We are already halfway through term 1 and students have had a very busy couple of weeks, working hard in their classes as well as participating in a range of extracurricular activities. We have welcomed new staff member Dylan Cuttriss to RSC. Dylan will be teaching Junior English and Humanities and will be focusing on leading the schools Literacy programs and supporting staff with their Instructional Practice as a Learning Specialist.

Student and staff had a fantastic day in Kyabram at our recent House Swimming sports. It was so good to see so many students swim in numerous events, jump in to the pool for the free swim, cheer for their peers and dress up in house colours. Congratulations to Grevillea who were the days overall winners, all the age group champions and the staff relay team who triumphed yet again against a worthy year 12 team in the staff v students race. Thanks to Phoebe Cuttriss for organising the day and all staff for their assistance on the day. Without this, these events do not run.

The Rochester Lions Club hosted the Lion’s Youth of the Year on Wednesday evening. Year 12 students Maddison, Tara, Jude and Brodie all participated in the contest, and all did an excellent job, speaking very well about a number of different topics.

The competition consists of a written application, an interview and public speaking. At the dinner the students delivered a prepared speech on a topic of choice and also completed two shorter speeches “off the cuff” in response to two impromptu questions.

There can only be one winner, congratulations to Jude who will represent the school as well as the Rochester Lions Club at the next stage of the competition. We are very proud of the efforts of all four students as it was a very tight contest with high quality presentations.

Cheers,

Matt
