Term 1 Week 6

STEAMING AHEAD IN STEAM!

It has been a very busy start to STEAM this Term.

Through the generosity of Ardoch we were lucky to receive a classroom set of Beebots. The set included 10 Beebots, a charging hub and grid map for the juniors to learn directional coding to solve puzzles on the map.

A huge thankyou to Ardoch and Pakronics, we can't wait to use them!

Preps have been exploring various stations to build relationships, persistence and resilience. They had some great ideas for bridges over the stream that wouldn't upset the Troll.

Ones have listened to the story 'Sloppy Tiger on the Bus' and are creating playrooms for the bus that will keep Sloppy and the passengers happy and safe. They have used lots of creative ideas and I am sure Sloppy will love the play room as will the passengers

Twos have been exploring magnetism and are busy designing and creating a magnetic maze for Hasbro Toy Company! The mazes are coming along well and we can't wait to play them all.

Threes are very busy finding out about gravity and space, they are in the planning stage at the moment to create a prototype of a device that can land safely on the Comet 67P. the device cannot lose any equipment or bounce around during landing. I can not wait to see their ideas come alive.

Fours have been introduced to electrical circuits and have worked on making closed and open circuits to make various objects work, globes, buzzers and motors have been a hit. They were super excited at seeing the LED light up for the first time. We have explored and tested to find conductors and insulators using playdough instead of wires. they are looking forward to creating playdough critters using conductive and insulating dough with electrical components.

Fives have done the same as the Fours thus far this Term and will be creating buzzing vibrating critters out of makerspace building materials. They should be lots of fun when they buzz and shake all over the place.

Sixes have collected their own data to determine the best materials and colours to use in making their Solar Ovens. They are now following the design process to create and test their own solar oven built collaboratively in a small group. They are so keen to bring along food to cook in them!!

Music Room Update

Twirling, spinning and swirling is the best way to describe the fun Prep children have been having in Music whilst using our scarves and ribbons. Our exploring has focused on  high/low sounds, fast/slow tempo, spatial awareness and motor skills. The children have also been enjoying singing hand action songs and nursery rhymes too with the favourite being 'Tiny Tim', '5 Little Speckled Frogs' and 'Zoom, Zoom, Zoom We're Going to the Moon'

Year's 1 & 2 have been exploring beats again whilst creating their own zoos. The children have chosen animals to contain in their zoo with the idea that they will be able to clap their zoo beats in time and perform to the class. Teamwork has definitely helped the dream work!!

Below are the animals on offer for the zoo if you'd like to have a go at making your own zoo at home!
