Literacy
We will be continuing our narrative planning using the Story Mountain structure, focusing on exciting adjectives, adverbs and onomatopoeia we can use in our writing. Students will be moving onto developing their narratives beginning with their Sizzling Starts where they will paint a clear picture in the readers mind through the use of descriptive language. Students are encouraged to up level their words and draw upon their knowledge of our vocabulary words during this process.
Our vocabulary words for the next two weeks are:
Maths
Over the coming weeks we are consolidating our mental and written strategies used to solve unknown subtraction and addition problems. Over a two-week period, we have 3 lessons dedicated to Problem Solving where students experience Numeracy rich contextualised learning. Students explore and work their way through practical problems using a wide range of manipulatives to assist their productive struggle. A standout was The Pirate Ship problem solving where students acted out their solutions as a whole class!
Please follow the link below for a fun Maths game we have been playing in class. All you need is a die, something to write with and a partner.
Inquiry
We will be further delving into health message delivered by the media and holding elaborate discussions on what they mean to us and whether we should trust their messages. This will lead into healthy eating, sports and hobbies and creating our Game of Life game cards.
Wellbeing
The Grade 4 Teachers have started to implement all the wonderful things they learned at the Berry Street Education Model professional learning day. We have been focusing on what it looks like, sounds like and feels like to be ready to learn. Students have started to develop their Ready to Learn scales that will be implemented over the coming weeks and used throughout each day as a form of independent check in. We are also continuing our focus on Stress Management and exploring multiple ways to calm our bodies and cope with the variety of stressors children may come across.
Kitchen Garden
We have been so lucky to have Kitchen Garden back up and running this year. Every student has had a ball being in the Kitchen with Mrs Furlong baking scrumptious apple pies, YUM! We are also seeing some budding green thumbs in Grade 4 who are excelling at tending to our beautiful garden at Skye Primary School. The chickens are certainly loving all the extra food and cuddles too.
Thank you for being part of our Meet The Teacher afternoon, we loved sharing our classroom with you all! It was VERY impressive seeing everyone brave the heat and participate in The Amazing Race, especially those who completed our relay in the scorching sun.
