Holy Cross Happenings

District Swimming

On Wednesday the 28th of February, 27 students competed in the Macedon Ranges District Swimming Carnival for Holy Cross at Sunbury Aquatic and Leisure Centre. The schools we competed against were Braemar, Gisborne PS, Macedon PS, Mt Macedon PS, New Gisborne PS, Riddell's Creek PS, St Brigid's & Willowbank PS.

Once we arrived at the pool we got prepared to complete an optional warm up lap.  After all the schools were back in their designated areas the District coordinator Jo Mason  from New Gisborne gave us a run down of the day. Then the events began, Holy Cross were assigned lane 2 beside New Gisborne and Braemar. We had a lot of success in all of the individual events and an amazing amount of swimmers progress to the Division final in 2 weeks. Fifteen people competed in  individual races trying as hard as they could.

After the individual events had concluded we started the relays. There were 2 relays we were able to compete in; they were the freestyle relay (where all 4 swimmers complete 50m of freestyle) and the medley relay (where all 4 swimmers swim 50m of a different stroke, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and freestyle in that order).  We had multiple relay teams come in the top 4 placings and 3 relay teams book their spot in the division final.

"It was hard and stressful but I just told myself that I can do this. I felt nervous before my race but when I started swimming I felt good." - Ruby Lowther

"I had a feeling I was good enough to win but I was still kinda nervous. After my win I felt very proud but also very relieved. Now I am training up for division." - Oliver Spiteri

"It was such an amazing day and it was great to see everybody cheering on and supporting each other." - Zjef Du Chateau

Year 1/2 Scienceworks Excursion

This Thursday our Year 1/2 children headed off to Scienceworks to learn about Science facts whilst making links to design. The children dabbled in many scientific concepts but were particularly fascinated by the wonders of light and shadow. The children were able to design characters, images and stories using their newfound knowledge around wavelengths of light.

Bella - "William and I were making a car. We were working out how it moved."

Ava V - "We went into a room with a yellow handle at the back that took us to the secret passage. It was like a disappearing room."

Charlie - "We raced against Cathy Freeman and beat her."

Kaylee - "We went to a rainbow, shadows and light workshop. We did some light and shadow and we used prisms to separate the light."

Alistair - "Did you know that light only goes in a straight line?"

Vinnie - "We made shadow puppets. The light can’t travel through the puppets so it makes a shadow on the wall."

Wellbeing Leaders Leap into the Leap Year!

To celebrate the leap year our amazing team of Wellbeing Leaders worked closely with Kellie to create a surprise for the children at Holy Cross.

Hidden all around the yard were dozens of cheeky little leap frogs, waiting to be discovered by our vigilant searchers at break time. As expected, many children leapt for joy upon finding their little leap frogs.

Thank you to our Wellbeing Leaders and Kellie for organising such a clever and fun activity.
