Meet Your 2026 Sports Leaders

As we build towards another exciting season of QGSSSA Winter Fixtures, we are handing the microphone to the students leading from the front.

Captain’s Corner is your chance to hear directly from our 2026 sporting leaders, the voices helping shape the culture, energy and identity of Clayfield College sport.

Across the coming weeks, we will profile our captains as they share their sporting journeys, leadership reflections, favourite Clayfield memories and what they are most looking forward to this season. From pre-game routines to words of advice for younger players, this is an opportunity to get to know the students proudly leading our programs in 2026.

Your 2026 leaders. Their stories. Team Clayfield.

QGSSSA Netball

Lacie Clarke

Hi, I am Lacie, one of the 2026 Netball Leaders. I have been playing netball since I was 7, my preferred positions are goal attack and wing attack. One of my favourite memories from netball is getting the opportunities in Brisbane to be in high level teams whilst also meeting so many new friends who I get to make lots of memories with. As a leader, I hope to bring support to all girls, a positive vibe to every training and every game day, and a good team culture for everyone to follow so the QGSSSA Netball environment is one that is inclusive on and off the court, helping everyone build confidence and connect with their teammates.

Zoe Goodes-Stibbards

Hi, I’m Zoe, one of the 2026 Netball Leaders. My preferred positions are wing defence and centre, and I have been playing netball since I was seven years old. One of my favourite memories from netball is going to State Age every year and getting the opportunity to compete with my team while making so many fun memories together. As a leader, I hope to bring positive energy, encouragement, and strong communication, while helping create a supportive and inclusive environment where everyone feels confident and connected both on and off the court.

QGSSSA Volleyball

Niki Morris

My Name is Nikita Morris, and I am one of the 2026 Volleyball Leaders. I’ve been playing volleyball since 2021, when I first started playing at Clayfield College in Year 7. Over the time I have grown to love playing all of the positions on the court, but I particularly enjoy stepping into the libero position. This season, I’m excited to lead my peers, help everyone grow in confidence and make sure everyone who is playing volleyball this year has the most enjoyable time. To me, leadership is about creating an environment where everyone feels supported, included and able to have fun, because even though volleyball is competitive, the most important part is working together as a team. My message to younger players is simple: communicate, try your best and always remember to enjoy the game.

Jordyn Scott

Hi everyone I’m Jordyn, one of the 2026 Volleyball Leaders and I have been playing volleyball for five years, from Years 8 to 12, and over that time I have developed a real passion for the sport. My preferred position is middle block, although I enjoy playing anywhere on the net because I love the fast pace and teamwork involved. This season, I am most excited about encouraging new students to get involved and helping them enjoy volleyball as much as I do. To me, leadership means supporting and motivating others, leading by example and creating a positive environment where everyone feels included. My message to the younger players is to give everything a go and never be afraid to ask the Seniors for help, we are always happy to support you and help you practise new skills.

We are both extremely keen for the training season to start!

QGSSSA Cross Country Championships

Clayfield College was proudly represented at the 2026 QGSSSA Cross Country Championships, with our athletes taking on one of the most competitive events on the school sport calendar against the strongest distance runners in the association.

The headline performance of the day belonged to Grace Hunter, who etched her name into Clayfield Cross Country history with a remarkable back-to-back championship victory. After claiming the 12 Years title in 2025, Grace returned to defend her crown in the 13 Years division, once again rising to the occasion with a composed and commanding performance.

Further highlighting the quality of her run, Grace’s time ranked among the very fastest performances of the entire championships, with only five athletes in the 17 Years & Over division recording faster times across the day, which is an exceptional benchmark and a reflection of her continued development in the sport.

There were also several strong individual performances across the championships, with Lainey Madders producing an excellent run to finish 11th in the 12 Years division, Emilia Edwards crossing the line in 20th place, and Danielle Frith recording a strong performance to finish 25th in the 15 Years division.

A special acknowledgement must also go to a group of athletes whose consistency and preparation throughout the season set the standard within the squad. Danielle Frith (18 sessions), Myla Reeves (17), Sally Sproat (17), Sari Weyer (15), and Lucija Wiggins (10) were among our most committed trainers across the campaign. While championship results are recorded on race day, the work completed in the lead-up deserves equal recognition, and these students should be acknowledged for the example they set.

Across the championships, our athletes embraced the opportunity to compete against the strongest schoolgirl distance runners in Queensland, with several students gaining valuable championship experience on one of the premier stages of school cross country.

A sincere thank you to our staff, families and student supporters who brought energy and encouragement throughout the day, proudly backing the team in true Clayfield spirit.

QGSSSA Reconciliation Round - Autumn Fixtures Finale

This Friday’s final round of the QGSSSA Autumn Fixtures carries significance beyond competition, as Clayfield College proudly participates in the QGSSSA Reconciliation Round against Somerville House.

As part of this important occasion, our senior Basketball, Football and Touch Football teams will take to the court and field in the College’s P&F-sponsored Reconciliation uniforms, a meaningful symbol of respect, reflection and recognition of the stories, cultures and enduring connection of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to Country.

The Reconciliation Round provides an opportunity for sport to unite community, encourage conversation and acknowledge the role we all play in fostering understanding and inclusion.

As we close the Autumn season, we thank our athletes, coaches and supporters who have contributed to a term of connection, growth and spirited competition. This Friday, we stand “All In” for sport, for community and for reconciliation.
