Getting into the Term Rhythm

There has been plenty happening behind the scenes this fortnight in the Music Department. The 2027 Music Scholarship auditions have now been completed, and we congratulate all students who participated. We are also looking forward to several of our musical ensembles performing at the upcoming Junior School Mid-Year Assembly.

Families are reminded that requests for private Music lessons can still be made. There are also still places available in the Junior School Choir.

Grade 5 and Grade 6 Band

The Grade 5 and Grade 6 Bands have been busy rehearsing in preparation for their upcoming performances in the Mid-Year Assembly on June 15. A reminder that instruments, music folders, and practice sheets for Grade 5 and Grade 6 need to be brought to school on Mondays for rehearsals and tutorials.

Bandsmen of the Week

Students who are named as Bandsman of the Week demonstrate exemplary behaviour during rehearsals and tutorials, bring the necessary equipment on Mondays (instrument, music folder, and practice sheet), and have demonstrated a dedicated home practice schedule. Congratulations to Hugh Johns and Oscar Lumley in Grade 5 and Theodore Lockhart and Joe Langdale in Grade 6 for being recognised as Bandsman of the Week.

2027 Music Scholarship Auditions

Auditions for 2027 Music Scholarships were completed last week. The audition panel was impressed with the standard of performance of all the candidates. The recipients of 2027 Music Scholarships will be formally announced at the Junior School Mid-Year Assembly.

Junior School Choir

A reminder that the Junior School Choir rehearses on Tuesdays from 8.30am-9am in the School Hall. There is an open invitation for all boys in Year 3 to 6 to join our choir. No prior experience is needed and there are no auditions. All Choir members from last year are encouraged to continue on this year.

In discussing this opportunity with your son, please note the following expectations:

  • There will be a trial period of three weeks for anyone who is interested in joining.
  • After this trial period, if your son would like to remain in the choir the commitment is for the remainder of the year. Being a part of the choir is being part of a team.
  • Attendance at our weekly rehearsal and performances are compulsory. Once committed, if your son changes his mind, he must first speak with Mrs Messer and Mr Hope with his reasons for withdrawal. He cannot simply stop turning up.
  • In order to achieve our best as a team, the boys need their best in every rehearsal. A high standard of behaviour is expected.

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact Mr Peter Hope at phope@stvirgils.tas.edu.au
