Soccer News

We are off to the State Finals! After winning against Rowville Secondary College and Thornbury Secondary College, our U/15 boys and girls teams both booked a spot in the State Finals to take on our rivals Maribyrnong College.

This is a National competition where the winner will represent Victoria in the next phase of the tournament. With over 400 schools competing and over 6000 participants, the Bill Turner Cup is the biggest and most prestigious Schools Cup in Australia.

When our school wins against Maribyrnong College we will then head to Albury Wodonga to take on the winners from country NSW in a two day tournament.

If successful there we will head to Sydney to play in the finals series where the top 8 schools in Australia will compete to see who will be crowned the best U/15 school soccer team in Australia.

Both teams are training well, competing hard and are determined to make the trek to Albury for the next stage. Keep pushing the boundaries WHC and keep making us proud.

High Performance and Olympic Pathway Program:

Congratulations to our very own Arlo Shawcross who recently returned from competing in Belgium at the Junior World Cup Tennis Championships. Not only was it an amazing feat to make the team, but also an incredible result – Arlo and his team won Bronze and the Team of the year trophy!!!

Australia topped their group with an undefeated record, defeating the USA, Brazil and Italy to reach the semifinals. Australia fell agonisingly in the semifinals against Japan, who went on to face Great Britain in the final; the Aussies' third and deciding rubber of their semifinal tie against Japan came down to a match tiebreak. However, the green-and-gold campaign would end on a high, with the Aussie team claiming a 2-0 victory over USA in the third-place playoff.

Australia was also presented with the 2026 Team of the Year Award. The honour recognises one nation for their “fair play, sportsmanship, on-court and off court behaviour, support for other teams, team spirit and level of international outreach.”

An outstanding Achievement Arlo – we are incredibly proud of you!

The Female Athlete Parent-Carer Event

Thank you to all parent-carers and female student-athletes who attended our SSP Free Event on Wednesday 10th June. It was wonderful to hear from Emily Moroney, from The Live, Life, Whole Project. Emily zoomed in on the ‘whole’ athlete, focusing much of the night on Physical, Emotional and Mental health. Topics covered, included; the importance of fuelling for training and performance, as well as the importance of self-confidence and how parents can support and foster this in a child, and training and recovery from a physical and mental health perspective. There were some invaluable insights that our students and parent-carers walked away with.

We appreciate you all giving up your time to attend and we can’t wait to see you all at the next event.
